Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Reimbursement program audits continue

I got let go for admitting I returned computer items from over 3 years prior. Repurchased but eBay goes back only 3 years and PayPal 2 years. Don't think it would of mattered even if I could get them. If you are called into investigation by internal director, I highly recommend you say nothing and tell them you want to discuss with your legal council. you may be let go any way but at least you can force their hand. They may have got records from the stores without your consent which is better to show if it goes to court.

i bought a fitbit, never opened it, and then later sold it on ebay. am I guilty? i saw this as a company perk to be used as I saw fit. i paid TAX on the $$ I was given. every dollar helps me and my family.

That is true, the order is from the top and then independent security group with HR is leading the firings. BUT the SVPs and VPs whose area is getting impacted due to now being short staff and struggling to get their departments work done they need to push back up the chain that the "true fraud" (using one recipe to file for reimbursement by multiple people etc) vs "minor oversight" (forgetting to refile after return/exchange) should be treated differently.

The craziness must stop!!!

This

This is way higher up than even SVP level. It's an Abby decision, she viewed it as stealing from her company and said to get rid of everyone. Security is just following orders and SVPs/VPs/Senior Directors/Directors/Managers are being informed at the same time or just prior to when the employees are being pulled from the floor. Anyone in management who expresses concern with this or attempts to defend the accused is not given any credence. This opinion is from personal first hand experience, not hearsay.

yes, the grass is indeed greener. appreciated my years at Fidelity, the experience I gained etc, but only after you leave can you realize that squeezing every last ounce of productivity out of you is not how other many companies operate.

There are no real leaders at Fidelity, only muppets. All or nothing, black and white, corporate mindsets. Independent thinking and ideas are suppressed, even shunned. Follow the green line culture and shut your mouth to get your share allocation. Never question your superior, put your head down and just do. I can confirm that the grass is indeed greener on the other side.

I think this has come from higher up than any manager would have influence. IMO, this is a case of Abby or someone not far from her thinking this is a case of stealing from the company. I know one person who was fired. Their loss definitely cost the company money. They, especially Abby, don’t understand why anyone would want/need a few hundred dollars extra.

So 2 weeks back - May 11th is the last known firing as part of this progrom.

I am sure managers who have lost good workers for minor oversight to refine for exchanges etc must be escalating the impact to business.

Any investigator or management on this thread who knows the inside scoop?

Looks like last confirmed firing was on April 24th.

It has now been a month. Seems like the madness has now stopped!

Not involved, but if you were fired because you sold a computer due to the desire to upgrade, then that is bull.

Stop trying to make sense of this, if you don't have the goods you are fired ... left to fend for $10/hr jobs outside of finance.

So if you’re in possession of the equipment at the time of submission and there isn’t a return policy what policy is violated to warrant termination?

There is only one instance mentioned on these recent threads of someone being "hired" by another firm, but it appears that the rep went independent and one of the independent platforms was willing to let them hold their registrations there. So, not a position with salary or benefits. Face it, the stakes are high if there is anything in your past that might cause a surprise termination. Would you be comfortable if everything you ever viewed on your work computer, laptop, phone, etc was printed out and reviewed in detail with two investigators? If not, don't bury your head in the sand.

Has anyone been fired and rehired with their licenses being held at another firm? I know of just one individual who was back in the industry with this disclosure.

Nothing in FI CE/OSG world although the last round for that group was on a Tues 4/24 in Westlake, so who knows. I think once they have a list of names they visit the sites and don't limit activity to a specific day of the week.

The computer reimbursement did end, but they still reimburse for fsa and gym fees. Those still offer the possibility of fraud.

To the person who posted yesterday that the audit won't end and every receipt will now be checked - you must not work at Fidelity because you'd know that the computer reimbursement program ended in Aug 2016

I think the audit won’t end in that Fidelity will always check new receipts going forward. With that said, I have a tough time believing they can many companies to hand over customer data without a court order.

Haven’t heard of any firings last week, they are probably back investigating and will do another wave when they have a list of names compiled. The #witchhunt continues

If someone really settled with Fidelity for a large $$ amount, they would probably be bound by a confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement. No reason for them to proactively post about it here. If the poster is just messing with everyone, please stop. People's lives are in turmoil right now and not cool to play with emotions.

Fidelity has their own internal social media call "Ribbit". Someone should post asking when the investigation is over. As such in all my years I don't think I ever saw one negative comment on there. Lots of groveling and happy posts shadowed by fear....check it out current Fidos.

I thought this was over by December. Until a month ago...that sweet little secretary tapped me on that shoulder with a smile....got a minute? Got to expect by the hits to this thread that hundreds are worried and waiting for their day. Jobs will come and go...the stress is not worth it and glad my day has come and gone. There will be other jobs and believe it or not possibly something better....be well.

Did any one hear of CONFIRMED firings this week?

If the firing has been going on since Jan 2017 (as one article suggests) then they must have gone through the "suspect" pool and be done with it by now.

Extending the process out is just impacting the productivity of people who are still there but unsure if minor infractions like return and rebuy at another store or return and rebuy another model and not knowing then needed to update the paperwork will get them fired.

Cost benefit analysis does not work....

One security guy had posted earlier; If you are still following this thread-Has the firing ended?

Idea: if each person reading this thread goes out and posts a negative review on Glassdoor, and also clicks "Helpful" on the other negative reviews, this will put these reviews at or near the top of the results when sorted by the default popularity or date. Fidelity loathes bad press, let's get them back, people! I have seen a lot more negative reviews lately on there so Glassdoor isn't taking them down as someone in another thread had suggested.

As a still employed associate, this is so disheartening. Very disappointed in Fidelity for this absurdity. They should have just fired the Jacksonville people and shut off the programs instead of then embarking on this #witchhunt

I wonder why?....

https://www.linkedin.com/feed/news/firms-cant-buy-millennial-loyalty-1358442/

A new study of millennials in the workplace shows that the generational cohort's loyalty to employers is deteriorating. The research, conducted by Deloitte, found that while money can attract talented millennials, it doesn't necessarily retain them. Factors like workplace diversity and flexible working arrangements are cited as ways to keep these workers loyal. The findings also suggest that millennial views of employers' ethics and motivations are eroding, with just under half believing that businesses behave ethically, a drop from 62% in 2017.

I wish all our former co-workers best of luck as they try to pick up the pieces of their careers. There are a lot of great people with lots of talent if firms out there are willing to look past the Fidelity damage. So sad to read the stories here on this board and feel the desperation in people's lives. We all make mistakes.
