Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Little Miss Tea & Crumpets

The latest chapter in this sad saga is that Little Miss Tea & Crumpets is going around the NYC office stating that she, alone, gets to write her own job description and has been offered to move to ES. The truth is this is all a lie - fabricated by LMT&C because she just can't face the fact that she has single handedly ruined one of the best preschool brands in the world. Whether its:

1) Refusing to learn the toy or even CPG business model

2) Endlessly prattling about "franchise", when in fact she inherited it all and never built one

3) Did not fight or give argument to the reallocation of advertising $ from Thomas to the corpse, Barbie

4) To allowing Thomas Wood to be released without personally scrubbing reported "research" that said consumers would buy into it

5) Making her direct reports stay home on Fridays (as she did)

6) Endlessly on her phone and not being focused on the business

She is a fraud, a hack and more entitled than any millennial on the face of the earth. The truth is she got booted out of the company like most everyone else has and is headed back to England. Her ego is just so huge and out of control that she has to make up stories than to just face the facts.

KS is about as competent as that other smarmy limey AW and his mismanagement of hit. He should have been axed when we acquired hit but they relied on his "expertise" of hit properties and kept him on. Another "brilliant" move.

KS is unfit to lead her head out of her own arse, let alone an office.

seriously? How can things be positive in the NYC office? You have to be one of the most delusional hacks on the planet to think that there's a silver lining for most in this office. WE ARE LOSING OUR JOBS YOU MORON!! NYC is losing one of the last great toy companies. Now everything will be on the west coast except for crap companies like Alex Toys and Rubys (if you can consider that toys). This whole industry is crumbling because of hubris and half baked management decisions from people who are too blinded by the $$ in their eyes from their bottomless contracts to give a sh!t about the actual business. Its easy to walk the high wire when there's a safety net below you.

I work there, and I think you’re making things sound far too negative. This situation is extremely difficult for many employees. Still, these people are professionals, and are delivering what needs to happen, despite the situation.

You have to have reasonable expectations of people at this point. No one is on a witch hunt, trying to deny people severance. Show up, meet your deadlines, don’t give anyone obvious cause to fire you, and you’re fine. People have enough to deal with already.

I find it hard to believe that anyone there who's not relocating and riding it out to get the severance actually works. Whats the climate like in NYC? Are people pretending to work or really getting things done? Is management keeping eye out for people that they can fire prior to the severance date? Are they bothering with reviews? Who would put any effort into a licensing show for a company that's telling them they're being phased out of a job?

She's not writing her own ticket, like she's been telling everyone. It's all a lie that's she's made up because she can't admit she's a failure (and she is). She'll be telling this story in vague terms all the way through The Licensing Show and until the doors close in NYC. Then she'll find some other job or fade away until she does.

So what's miss Geordie Shore going to do now that she's bombed with Thomas? Is she truly going to write her own ticket to ES, or go start up her own franchise since she's such a booming success?

Last two posters are idiots. Flinging insults at each other about East Coast/West Coast instead of placing your ire where it belongs - on the leadership and board.

Congrats on being so easily manipulated. It's exactly what they want.

From what I see, last commenter, you’re probably just another elitist New Yorker. Well, you won’t be able to afford those sky high rents soon when they show you the door out there. Don’t let it hit you in the a-- when they kick you to the curb 😜

Dad? Thomas has been around longer than the living corpse, Barbie. Know what you’re talking about. Just because you’re from Cali doesn’t make you all-knowing - from what I see you’re just entitled and lazy

"Mattel is the kiss of death: killed American Girl, Fisher Price, Thomas."

Believe it or not, niche toy lines have a finite lifespan. American Girl was a fad, like Cabbage Patch, and has had a decent run. Mattel has owned them for 20 years. That line would have floundered long ago without the power of Mattel behind the brand.

FP? Mattel has owned them for more than 25 years. At what point was this kiss of death administered? Seems to me they are a Billion Dollar Brand. They weren't when Mattel bought them.

Thomas? Again, a fad that has had a good run. But all these types of brands eventually lose their pop.

There is no doubt that some Mattel mismanagement has had some negative impact on these brands. But overall Mattel has extended the life of the fads far beyond what they would have had on their own.

Mattel is the kiss of death: killed American Girl, Fisher Price, Thomas.... they should stick to building cheap crap like Hot wheels and Barbie.

Thomas WAS the best preschool brand - in fact it was the #1 Preschool Boys brands for years!! Right up until the Mattel acquisition of HIT Entertainment.

Thomas was not the best pre-school brand. Especially after FP got ahold of it and watered it down to the point of being oversaturated. too many sub segments and wasted efforts trying to get moms to understand the branding and trying to keep kids involved in a lamely written show and even weaker hack written youtube segment that was pathetic. DC themed thomas engines? That's a last ditch hail mary for a failing brand. get over it.
