What's with Qualcomm's policy of not allowing employees to offer references or recommendations for leaving employees? It cripples my chances of finding a new job if no one that I work with at Qualcomm is able to provide a recommendation. They don't even want former employees to reference the work we've done together at Qualcomm. It's "against policy."

What I always offered those that asked if i would give them a recommendation is that I would be happy to give them a "personal" recommendation but that I couldn't give a company sponsored one.
Read the policy carefully. I'm pretty baure personal references are allowed and not excluded.
Yes, the irony is every company in the US does a thorough background verification when hiring but doesn’t give references when the employee leaves. It’s a well established policy to NOT give any references in this country but expect a ton of them while hiring. You don’t necessarily have to give references of your ex-colleagues, you can give anyone who can say a few good things about you.
If you are asking peeps you work with for references and they are stating the policy to you and saying no, well... Perhaps you were the problem all along.
Just ask coworkers for a non QC number and email to use them as a reference.
Wtf is this bs
And you believed them?
