Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

At what point will foreclosures pile up in Sidney?

Some of the houses for sale on Zillow might be deals in the next year. Can you even find affordable real estate within a 2.5 hour drive of Denver? Some enterprising tech company might start thinking about making a deal with Sidney to bring in jobs. At $80/square foot, or less, for many houses in Sidney, how does that compare to Colorado?

Love watching that town just go to $hit, hated it from day one. So proud of my parents for getting us out when we did and getting a fair price on our place. Dumb yokels staying just make me laugh, lol

On the bright side, Tommy’s house finally sold. 820k. Guess he can afford the loss.

I went on Zillow just to see the properties for sale. I did an aerial view and my goodness! Its like EVERY SINGLE HOUSE is listed. :( The one I rented while living there is selling for dirt cheap and I loved that little house. Sad.

I agree that the city didn’t foresee two major employers laying off and relocating employees . Now the city leaders have to deal with the fallout of giving Cabela’s whatever they asked for. Let the force be with employees dealing with uncertain futures and daily stress of not knowing when their last day is.

Check my facts . I assume you are a city employee . The statement was some of the highest in the nation not the highest in the nation.

OK, property taxes are high, but not nearly the highest in the nation. Check your facts.

What do you mean high tax rates they are in line with other communities in comparison.

Just as the mayor, city council, the county commissioners or the assessors office.

They will tell you

This comment has all the earmarks of either a real estate agent with a boat load of properties on the books, a property owner who either has a considerable amount of rentals properties empty or a homeowner who failed to see or heed the warnings of the impending real estate apocalypse.

Pipe dreamingnat it finest here.

First of all as stated prior techies are probe to relocate to such a rural and isolated location as Sidney,. The property taxes are ridiculously high in the area.

The reality is that the community threw all it hopes and dreams onto Cabela's and now the price that wsnpaid is high and the bill has come due.

Good luck in the future you will most definitely be needing it.

The houses for sale in Sidney are still above the 2010 levels However another factor which need to be taken into consideration in Sidney is the property tax. The tax rates in Sidney are at a all time high and some of the highest property tax rates in the nation.

Yeah, but if house prices get to the point where banks have to cut them to 1990's prices, there could be screaming deals for anyone who can not afford Colorado prices.

Agreed, dream on and stick a fork in Sidney. Cabela's couldn't find tech workers willing to move to Sid-rock in the best of times, which is why there were operations in the Omaha and Denver areas. No one ever really enjoyed relocating to Sidney, rather they held their nose for the sake of a job with a once great company.

Tech companies are looking for highly skilled, and educated workforce. They don't want to have to pay to relocate everyone there.

Tech workers are looking for a stimulating, happening place to live.

Nice pipe dream, put a fork in Sidney it is done.

Thaks to the nepotistic command structure of both Cabelas as well as the City/County goverment.

During my ahem stay in that community whilst i worked at what used to be Cabelas I was never more miserable.

I was led to believe that the community was open and freindly, with vibrant neighborhoods and active social life. Just one more lie to add to the list . The area is not freindly it is fiendly, A most defintley a pay to [play community.

We were never so happy when the opportuity to leave presented to us by my dismissal, my family actually cheered when we left.

So a tech company moving to your area, right.........

Good luck in the future, It should be renamed Sidney Nebraska retirement community.

hahahaha. Drive to Denver from Sidney. No prayer that Colorado real estate prices would make that commute worth it. Pueblo Colorado (more reasonable real estate for Colorado) is only 1:45 away and there is more stuff to do there then Sidney. And Colorado Springs is on the way to Denver. So much more to do. Sidney real estate is only a buyers market for someone who wants to retire in Sidney. Not anyone seeking a ‘tech’ job.
