Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Who's the moron?

Execs make millions and live like kings, while peons make thousands and worry about being laid off continually.

Execs serve the shareholders, who care nothing for peon employees and they also live well due to profits.

Execs aren't morons, they're carrying out their plan, which is very different from what the peons ASSUME it is. Peons assume Execs' plan is a simple, linear "Make profit, make company successful" plan.

Wrong. Their business plan is infinitely more complex than that and involves global shifts, demographics, technology changes, and the expected shelf life of a company due to changes in any of these arenas and others.

Peons assume the company will go on forever, because they do not understand any of these things, nor do they include them in their assumed understanding of Execs' priorities.

That is why they are the Execs and you are the peon. They're not the moron, you are for assuming to know much when you know nothing. Now go back to your cubby and do your specified, isolated task you're assigned to.

And wait for them to decide when to toss you out like yesterday's trash.

but those technologies you mentioned will wipe out more than they could create, just look at Energy Sector Bloodbath(2012-present), Retail Apocalypse(2014-present) and Bank Closures(2016-present), Medical and Consultancy Next!

Much of our needs are already at our finger prints, those things that are essential will survive the market, rest will be wiped out, very few will be winners as markets are highly democratized and scalable than ever before!

Time get out of our bubbles, and get ready for the storm!

Nobody said it's fine. The world indeed belong to all of us.

We are all worthed and have something good to offer. But from ancient times up until now, it's always been like that. The ones who control and the ones controlled.

As long as you don't have the finances, ideas etc,to invent your own empire and keep it going, you and I have to acceept that we depend on the ones who own.

Any changes that will take place in a company will impact jobs every few years.

Just pack the bags, know your worth and start somewhere else.

Here is where I agree with the OP. We have to understand that this things happen and not see it as the end if it happens to you.

There are so many new emerging technologies that focus on cognitive science, GPU' s, AI etc that they don't even have a definite name for those titles yet.

Tech is changing. Don't leave the guard down for sake! Will be fine.

its fine to have few kings and many peons, but its not fine to have only one choice for their loves, do the JOB or else ROT!

the world belongs to all of us, not few kings!

Isn't sad to be just a peon after studying your a$$ off for so many years just to get here waiting pattiently to be out the door?

Question is...what makes a non-peon? Perhaps the invention of your own company?! .working for yourself?

Very few are Kings...peons are the majority. And we are here to serve!

The leaders and their slaves. We are not as free as we think. We never had been. We are controlled like puppets. Just in a modern society.

It’s not uncommon at Q to make work life so uncomfortable so people will want to quit. It happened before me, to me, and so it goes on and on.

It’s about LOYALTY and RESPECT. You get it if you give it. Qualcomm has lost this from their employees and can’t get it back without a management change. People loved Irwin, people liked Paul, people hate SM and that greedy bean counter CFO who probably will start charging a nickel to use the company toilet. I’m great at my job, I have options, and I’m going to use them. Do you?

OP, look, everyone here knows that people have different jobs/motivations/skills and sure, the execs have a lot of moving parts to consider when making these decisions. Maybe the layoffs made sense, maybe they were fiscally justified, maybe they weren’t the result of past mistakes.

HOWEVER, I think the main theme of most of these posts, from my perspective, is the WAY PEOPLE ARE BEING TREATED when layoffs happen. This layoff was handled badly, people were scared for weeks and will continue to be scared for another month... or more. The smart ones left will vote with their feet. QC HR and the execs actually got together in a conference room and planned this sh!t out and largely disregarded the human factor in lieu of getting the job done. They never asked “What would Irwin do”. Say what you want about him, but he wouldn’t have done it this way. This isn’t the company I joined way back, and something in my brain has switched.

They opted for no 60 day WARN notice and instead went for the 60 days pay. So you didn’t get any advance notice, the hammer just fell. There is an emotional cost to ALL when that happens. And the execs, with all their complex reasons, decided that this was the best path for THEM.

Dollars > People.

Shareholders > Employees.

Executive compensation > Ethics

HEY, how about taking a f’ing pay cut to save a few hundred jobs, like other upstanding executives have done at other companies? Nope.
