Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Some of the best were laid off

This is ridiculous! One more time we lost some of our best employees.

Does nobody really understand that higher pay means that those people got it because they are good? Because they have been with Qualcomm long enough to learn how stuff is done? To bring freaking higher value for that higher pay than new employees who'll earn less but will know a fraction and have no experience?

This really pisses me off!

Will anyone in Human Resources be laid off? Makes sense because there is an hiring freeze.

The remaining folks are the most productive? You are naive. I was laid off after 11 years. I was always reviewed as often exceeds. It has nothing to do with ability, it's just like someone else said, the lifecycle of projects.

Maybe they wanted out ?

Q put out some retention bonuses for some key key people; but can't justify retention for simply "good employees".

Let's face it, the remaining folks are the most productive sharks. They're stronger, faster and smarter than the ones that didn't make it. Some may briefly complain that they miss someone that was let go, but deep down they enjoy swimming with the other sharks. They enjoy the kill and the feasts and spoils of being highly overpaid in these market conditions. All hail GD; full speed ahead on new M&As!!!

Agree. Productive employees don’t brown nose. They state the issue to try to resolve it. Brown nosing caused yes men to be counter productive and saturate the work force to be top heavy.

Well will give u classic example we still have two VPs in mst , which is completely useless 4 years back we had no VPs and mst was working perfectly fine , if they would have sacked one out of these two VPs they might have job of 20 engineers, oh do not forget this year they are going to promote one Sr director to VP so hold on you guys will have 3 VPs

They are good but the projects they work on no longer needed, they become expenses.

If they are really that good, they will find work somewhere else.

We all went thru layoffs one or more times in our life. No need to be upset. Everyone is doing their job. No one enjoys letting people go.
