Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Thoughts on joining a union??

For those of us that have invested years and have managed to stay until now, would you consider a labor union?

The right of workers in private employment to form unions and bargain collectively with their employers is guaranteed by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and related federal laws. The NLRA is preemptive, meaning that it supersedes state law in the areas that it covers

It’s ironic you mention this, it came up in passing the other day. I would say if you are interested pursue it. The thing I would think you would have a hard time finding is the numbers to support it. In ET for instance, you would need a majority willing to walk away. The other issue is not just the company but the make up of employees is extremely conservative in nature. Here is the thing, no one can stop you from doing it, but my guess is there would be ramifications from attempting to do so. The bottom line is if every analyst in ET say walked away, who would really be driving the ship then? Respectfully, I believe everyone knows that answer. ET cannot survive and or thrive without analysts whom are well versed in their disciplines, they can however replace over time with other “resources” should a coup of sorts be attempted. If, it were to be effective I suppose I would say it has to be all or nothing. You have to realize the risk overall and that the response from the company would be quick and harsh. IMO.

Do you think people will buy insurance from a unionized insurance company? How do you think getting a union involved will affect premium rates? Have you reasoned all that out/

Unions are just liberal b---s--- and don’t make any sense in the modern work environment. So while the OP may not be a troll, they’ve been living in a cave if they think unions do anything other than provide leverage for the special interest groups the union leaders are taking bribes from.

USA! USA! USA!

Unions are not the answer. If you don’t believe me, go to Detroit. If you’re unhappy with your job, find another job.

Not a troll, I'm an employee that is not old enough to retire but I have been with the company for over 15 years. I am considering contacting a union but if nobody is interested then I will not go forward.

If not a full blown union, we could certainly use a heavy dose of solidarity. Stand together. Support one another. Find ways to make our own change.

The day I can’t manage my own career and turn to a union to do it for me is the day I neuter myself with a rusty tin can lid.

I think if you are young, you have nothing to lose. How can they possibly make it worse. Especially if you are in a HUB. Speak out! You can find work elsewhere and not risk a paycut. Most decent employee's have already gone. If your a Kool-Aid drinker continue to work yourself to death, keep drinking. If this shinking ship every gets repaired your head will spin with all the added work there will be left to do. (yes, maybe you will be blessed with a promotion with guaranteed 20+ hrs/wk extra work with no OT)

I'm amazed this hasn't started yet. It's too late for me, but I wish the best to all those left behind!!

Stand up.....Our pension isn't that great after all. Go while the competition still values you and they haven't realized you do not know what your talking about. Buzz words only go so far.
