They do overshoot as it relates to layoffs, I am curious if one can be rehired or do you get banned permanently (many companies have this policy).

No need to pay back severance. See FAQ in go/transition. If you're rehired or IOSd prior to term date, then you don't get sev pkg.
You can be rehired but if you are rehired within 12 months of term date you keep your seniority /benefits but have to pay back the severance.
Yeah i know several who were rehired after the 2015 layoff. Remember, the engineering community in San Diego is small, don't burn any bridges when you leave unless you're sure it won't bite you in the butt later.
Yes we do. Unless you had issues and fired you (there is a flag in the termination paperwork - eligible for rehire - that can be ticked off)

Definitely know a lot of people that got rehired. As early as within two months, although to different departments. Another option is coming back as contractor/consultant
