Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Any layoffs this week?

We know layoffs are coming, do we know if anything is happening this week?

I've realized that most of my weekends lately have been spent worrying about the following week at work and whether I'll have a job or not instead of relaxing and properly recharging for work.

How sad is that?

'Do a great job at work. Go home, sleep good. You cant worry about that.'

Wrong. You always should worry about it and put yourself in a position to be valuable for other companies if your current position lets you go. Those who don't worry about it then find themselves with no alternative when they get let go. Most employees keep an eye for jobs at other companies and will switch jobs in a second since the executives at WIN live in fantasy-land. Wake up.

I heard every month there will be cuts leading up to a grand finale end of 2018 where all that'll be left outside of senior management are single white submissive interns with no kids. They'll do anything senior management wants for a fooseball table and the right to wear flip flops and bring their b---s--- ankle biters to work.

In today’s corporate climate you should always be building your savings and staying vigilant. When I was laid off I had approx 2 years of savings to draw on. I knew how notoriously common it was to be laid off at WS so I stayed prepared. Even though it took me less than a month to find a new job and yes I had to move to a neighboring city for it, the savings was key in not getting trapped in a bad situation. So many people try to live beyond or just at their means and bury their heads in the sand to potential catastrophe around them. I.E. People who go and purchase houses, cars, etc in the midst of company wide layoffs. If there is only one opportunity in your field in a certain area you need to always be prepared in case it goes belly up, to do what it takes which will very much likely mean moving to the opportunities.

Get out. What Else do you need to see to make a decision? They haven’t made any money in several years and customers are running. I can’t see it surviving another quarter at the current churn to sales rate. They are going to try and replace all of you with automation but it’s to late.

You are going to get let go

Its easy to say don't worry, but if you are the sole breadwinner and have bills and kids that depend on you for basic survival needs it not as easy as it sounds. Everyone that is saying "getting RIF'd was the best thing that happened to me, making twice as much and now getting the respect and recognition I deserve!" is all fine and dandy, but do you really think that happens for everyone that gets the boot? Most don't have a golden parachute worth millions (or even a crappy savings account) to fall back on if they are RIF'd and are on the edge of insolvency with a job, living in a homeless shelter soon after without. Its the situation those making these layoff decisions try not to think about I'm sure, or at least I hope they think about anyway ( "I was just doing my job".) Myself, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing something I put in progress has a family living on the street or worse. Karma is always watching.......

Haven’t heard anything.

Why worry about it at this point? It’s pretty much out of your hands. I just go to work and do what I can. Cannot stress on something that may or may not happen
