MemorialCare Health System administrators took another step toward the closure of Community Medical Center Long Beach by issuing layoff notices to nearly 40 employees.
The notices, required by federal law, involve 17 full-time employees and 20 other people who work on a part-time or as-needed, per-diem basis. Hospital Chief Executive John Bishop said those who received notices on Monday will have jobs through June 1.
