Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Interesting after 20+ years an english major doing tech work finally let go!!!

Worked with this guy in my group, Massachusetts, totally incompetent. He was swept up into Cisco through some acquisition of a start up (he was always joking how he was hired to write how-to-use manuals) and somehow Cisco eventually slid him into a tech help role. Worthless, arrogant, worked an hour a day if that. Used to show up at events with his loud mouth wife, the crazy-eye type. Used to steal supplies all the time, thought he might have an ebay store or something. Happiest day of my life when a little birdie told HR he has an English degree. I've known for months he had a big X near his name. Gone, gone, gone with this latest round. Time for Cisco to eliminate the incompetents as much as the fat!

There’s a ton of self nominated CTOs prancing about the place doing duck all. Leadership need to sort it out as its laughable.

They haven’t closed all the Massachusetts facilities yet? Clearly they need to free more executive management to spend time with their families.

You can have a non-engineering degree and contribute highly to a tech company. Weird thing to complain about since a degree of any kind has no bearing on an individual's work ethic.

Oh, I should have provided more clarity. He lied about his education giving your job no more than an hour a day; and adding a layer of arrogance to the whole pile of crap-o-la, well, in my book, you are taking up space. For every employee Cisco cuts to keep expense dollars at a happy place for Wall Street, there are likely 3 employees working an hour a day at a job never qualified for from the get-go. There are better ways to cut a workforce, like focusing on this fat. I would wager Steve Jobs never did an hour of work a day in his life with this feet up on his desk the rest of the time. People succeed and lead because of many ingredients - one of which is hard work.

My project manager is an English major too. Found out this on a resume copy he had inadvertently left at the printer. BTW, he is on prozac, found a prescription bottle at his desk. Cisco is doomed.

Why does someone accept a job at Cisco? It's a great place to hide, with no performance reviews. No quality standards or pressure to keep skills up to date.

An English major could lead cyber security at Cisco. Learn some high-level buzzwords and yell at people that ask strategic questions.

Associating a particular college degree or lack of degree with incompetence demonstrates a high level of stupidity. Check out https://www.linkedin.com/in/swmorris Scott has a BS in journalism and photojournalism and is one of the top networking experts in the world.

"The type of English major that works at Cisco "

No generalisation there then!!!

Rather pathetic OP.

Normally we make them project managers and then wonder why the deliveries are late and crap. Go check what degree your project manager has. Don’t be surprised how many have no engineering or tech background

The type of English major that works at Cisco is far from a Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Most likely apart of the 'Good ol Boys' club and knew how to play politics to avoid work.

An English major doing tech work. That's obscene. What next? A harvard drop out doing coding...oh yeah...bill gates. Maybe even someone who didn't even go to university starting a computer company...oh yeah.. .Steve Jobs. The OP needs to take a chilli pill and get some perspective.

OP is a great example of the type of people left at Cisco, no wonder is going down the drain.
