This number seems understated...

I would add the community as a whole to your statement as well the time that I live in that little slice of h**l I learned it was not just Cabela's that was closed minded but the community as well.

Very unfriendly

From the time I spent there and working closely with several departments, I wouldn't hire 90% of those people. Most may know hunting and fishing, but they didn't bring much of anything else. The close mindedness and complete lack of knowledge of anything outside of Sidney was very apparent.

The real world doesn't look or work like Sidney does as many of the employees thought. If that company did have a fraction of an open mind and desire to try something new, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Hey they are going to have a public square and splash pad downtown, right by the railroad tracks.

That will help keep people in town.

All sarcasm aside. The workforce and talent that is/was a part of the Cabela's culture in Sidney will probably not stay.

Astronomically high real estate taxes and as well as a lack of any thing other than sitting in the local tavern and watching sports, there is nothing of substance to attract the attention of the population

Many people and families leave town on the weekend and head either to Cheyenne or the front range for shopping and family entertainment.

Both of which our community is sadly and sorely lacking.

I once heard our community called a suitcase community and now I believe it, all one has to do is see how quiet it is on the weekends not to many left around town.

Why would any company or organization even consider our community with the constant hemorrhaging of skilled talent and younger families.

Just a few thoughts.

I understand what you are saying the added stress of a job loss coupled with a residential property that cannot be sold will be devastating.

I only know when I left that cultural and economic black hole on the prairie my sit made a drastic turn for the better.

My marriage recovered my relationship with my children is much better etcc

There IS LIFE after Cabela's and the little h**l hole on the prairie.

And I know that the ad's that Sidney and BP are putting out there state Sidney has this amazing workforce, but how many people that were at Cabela's are actually going to stay there once their job is done? How can they afford to stay there, and for what?

Most wives and kids could not wait to get the heck out of Sidney. The talk of divorce in my family started when I took my wife to that waste land.

Yep, its WAY too low. Leave it to the "unbiased" journalism to look out for their town.
