Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

5 Secrets of a consultant working on the transformation.

  1. We made a lot of money redesigning workflows that didn’t really need redesigninng and we just changed the format donee could invoice for that

  2. We made the improvements in SQ and NPT look much better than what they were so we could show excellent results. Ops managers were only to happy to help us fix the KPIs in their favour

  3. Operations managers did not want us near them but our boss reported to Paal so they had to spend a lot of time with us and allow us to invoice more days

  4. Strategy making was a great money earner spending months at a time developing new ways of presenting the same strategy that ops were already implementing but not using the right buzz words - easy money

  5. The truth finally dawned on Paal and he eventually sold SBC but not after we made our money

Thank you Schlumberger for the business. It was good while it lasted and now we are with new clients starting the cycle again.

Transformation - and all the other similar initiatives over the years - are the same thing. Enormous aspiration, throw money at it, heavy internal marketing, pressurize mediocre middle managers to produce the goods who then become desperate excel sheet nerds massaging their figures to have something to say at their monthly reports, spending large chunks of their working life crafting pretty powerpoint slides to avoid telling the truth. Then something changes and the whole effort is forgotten and maybe, overall, only a few percent of the original target was ever gained. The C suite lot must know exactly what goes on, so it is all a big charade, so long as there is a nice message to tell the shareholders. It is up to the shareholders to call out the board on their doublespeak.

I thought the transformation was just a buzz word we had to bring up in meetings.

I had no idea they were spending money on it as I never saw one thing that looked like effort was put into it. This wasted money is all news to me.

And this guy is telling us "the tolerance is over". Haha! Typical SLB comedy.

The company has spent 392 million USD so far. The benefit is shown in the stock price trailing our main competitor Halliburton. That tells you everything about the transformation. That said it has definitely transformed the bank account of our CEO.

What transformation? The only transformation that has taken place is Bruce Jenner is now a woman. Sorry correction Bruce never finished either.

It’s clear the transformation is failing because outside of some slick looking power points nothing is different except no one has visibility or ownership to actually deliver product & services.

I should add this was at the corporate HQs of the different segments where it was much easier to do because of the Paal fear factor. In the geomarkets it was more difficult and they pushed us back quite a bit so was more difficult to get the hours in there but still we did ok. In the Smith segments they pushed back big time but when we reported that to our boss we could usually get the blocker fired or replaced with a career Schlumberger manager who was only too happy to oblige with more consulting hours because he knew how the game works and his job depended on showing the success of the transformation. Easy money with those guys

So there was no transformation? It was all a fraud? As a shareholder this is appalling.

How do I get a job like yours?! I am clearly in the wrong field.

Man this is so true and is exactly what happened in Smith. We paid one of those guys 1500 a day for redrawing our workflows and another one for writing checklists !
