Where and who said it was replaced? Go back and read it it says fiber Based. Moultrie Georgia is on its way to being a 100% FTTP market as well as many other places. Over 400 cities. (Typically in the city limits) Obviously most of the people on this form have no telecommunications background. But if you was to compare Traditional ILEC twisted-pair phone companies you would find in rural areas Windstream us doing great. Outside of big and upcoming cities would are lucky to find AT&T to offer any facilities based HSI anywhere. By the way ALL major Telecommunication providers use federal government “handout” money.

Concord, NC - they’re using FTTH that’s been there since they bought Concord Telephone Company 10+ yrs ago. They just started offering fiber speeds 2 yrs ago - I thought there had been copper DSL to my house when I ordered Kinetic - turns out it was already fiber with an extremely cheap, slow card (something like 10 Mb) in the box on the side of my house.

Low hanging fruit finally getting picked after many yrs

Yes there Putting Fiber to the NODE not FIber to the House. Big Difference Its has got to go to the house to be fully efficient. No matter who the provider is Fiber to the home business is the one who Wins.

I AM A WINDSTREAM NETWORK TECH.

Other telcos were running fiber for their networks over 10 years ago, WIN was instead buying companies nobody else wanted, now they are scrambling with getting fiber installed, while the rest of the telcos are laughing at them as they steal their customers. Cable is eating WIN for lunch - stealing business and residential customers...

We are using (And having trouble) old copper for bonded DSL at the moment. The tech that repaired it today mentioned project lunar and said by the end of this year (2019) Windstream wanted to have everyone on at least a 50mbps connection.

The new flavor of the month is called Lunar. And yes, it's over very old copper cable. Windstream is still a decade behind the competition. Very few locations have fiber to the prem. - only to the dslam. To be truly committed on becoming a world class provider investments in fiber to the home is imperative. Project Lunar is just another band aid to buy time for the inevitable. Lets face it , the average family household has 13 wireless devices today. Netflix streaming on a 4k tv is impossible with the speeds WS offers and Lunar money is basically a handout from the government to make DSL a little better to rural America. Lots of hiring right now but after this is fully deployed watch for more layoffs down the road.... feeding the pig for a fatter sale so we can say 75% of our customer base has 25 meg availability- big deal.
