Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Last Days for an APM

Well, me and my team just finished up the last days of recon this week and I have cleared out my desk and office. Our store just transferred one of our two detectives to a nearby location since we lost one of the positions effective next week. I am on schedule for tomorrow but don't think I am going in for my last day, too many difficult memories after more than 10 years working for the company. I wish my remaining detective and the MSO who is taking my store the best of luck. I know that doing my job alone took me at least 50 hours a week at a minimum, and based on the conference calls with our new regional AP / OPS VP who is the same one that was the AP VP, there is no change in AP responsibilities in the new Manager of Ops / AP job.

I can't comprehend how the company can expect the person in this new role to do all of the AP functions AND all of the Ops functions as well, and do it with less staff that I had last year. The new VP mentioned that the change was due to the new president who came over from Home Depot where they have OPS and AP combined. I don't think he realizes the difference between the types of merchandise we sell at Macy's vs. Home Depot. You can't steal a 2x4 or riding lawn mower by sticking it in your pants or wearing in under your clothes. I don't think that Home Depot has fitting rooms or fine jewelry departments either.

While I hope and wish my old store the best, I am glad to be taking the severance and moving on to a new company that will be focused on growth instead of cost cutting in an attempt to keep pace with declining sales. Our region has been running the highest shortage in the company for the last four years and I predict that 2018 will set new shortage records as word of the changes to the AP structure have already hit the streets and lit up the internet. Best of luck to my fellow employees, I hope that things turn around for you and the company in the future.

Love the new " Corporate AP Experts" Former AP RVPs ....lol Just giving them extra severance by changing their title and time to find something else. Career implosion.

Very poignant statement that focused on the reality of Macy's current situation. Especially the statement that Macy's is now trying to keep what it already has while trying to cut costs everywhere. We had to sit through several videos this week explaining what's going on with the new HR policies and a Beyond The Boardroom. I thought I was watching a cult recruiting video with everywhere so happy and animated. Good luck to you, sir.
