Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart Laying off Cashiers in 2018

I can tell you that this is a rumor that's floating around in So Cal right now - folks are talking about layoffs of cashiers. I do not want to spread fake news and I AM NOT CLAIMING that cashier layoffs will happen - I am just telling you that people are freaking out already here in So Cal as we do not know what will happen.

I think that the most recent changes contributed to this, we see what happened with COs and managers, Sam's, etc. so folks are adding two and two together and they are creating rumors.

I hope I am off and that not a single cashier will be cut.

God bless

I can see Walmart with few or no cashiers, seems like that way now.Where the customer scans and goes I read A Article on this a while back.Amazon going this way And walmart menacing this in there stores. They money they would save going in this direction must be more than tempting. But will customers really like this who knows how it will work out. They have very few checkouts opened even on a busy day.Customers moaning and cursing as they Waite to be checked out.Is it just me or is the checkout Associates moving slooooo as the lines get bigger adding fuel to the fire.Iv'e timed them 10,15,20 Seconds per item. The Scan as you go is beginning to look appealing

You don't need to lay off cashiers. They give you plenty of reason to fire them.

Agricultural states - California for example, but others too - need workers in the fields. Some of these corp farms are offering above min wage, PTO, even 401k. It’s hard work, but retail can be hard too, if you’re standing, walking, lifting, carrying things for hours and having to do it quickly.

No I certainly DO NOT want MY children to work at wm and both worked to put themselves thru college (not at wm) and got high paying careers in IT and nursing. I said "my" in the sense of the youth of our nation. Time was you got a pt job at wm after school or on weekends, summers to save up for college or mothers worked evenings to bring in a little extra. Not everyone is smart enough or have enough drive to get/work thier way thru college. They get in at wm hoping maybe they can work into a full time slot or at least supplement welfare payments. Face it our schools are not turning out rocket scientists. Putting stock on shelves (the brighter ones can actually put it in the right place) or swiping groceries over a scanner is managable for a lot of them. Used to be there were manufacturing jobs where young people could learn a skill and have a family supporting job for life. Well those are mostly gone to other countries. So if you can't go on to college, what do you do? Have babies and go on welfare, if lucky you fine a boyfrien who makes good money selling drugs and hope he doesn't leave you for another hot chick.

OMG really you want your children to work at Wal-mart. What the hell is wrong with you. As far as cashiers getting let go that is the future. More self check outs, curbside pickup and for all of you that don't know there's a app called scan and go for Wal-mart where you check yourself out and pay thru your phone or tablet as you add items to your cart. Sams already uses it and it is now being used in some Walmarts. It will eventually be in all Wal-marts. No rumor just a fact. You can download that app right now from your app store. Cashiers will be few with all the self checkouts wont need many.

Here in Texas I've seen a number of stores recently install 7-8 self service beltlines. on both ends. Sure looks like they are moving toward very few live cashiers. Not that they ever have many anyway. Biggest customer complaint, long lines at checkout. Makes you wonder what will be left for jobs for our children.

I used to work at HO, laid off last year. Vision for the future is front end without cashiers. Not sure how long it will take but they are working hard to get there. Scan and go, self checkouts...

Walmart testing fully-automated store with no cashiers or checkouts

Walmart is also testing out shelf-scanning robots to audit its stores

Technology is taking over at least for some positions
