Bon-Ton Stores in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
Not surprised...visited their website and noticed that you needed to spend $75 or more to get free shipping (and that's if you used a promo code, it's not automatic), plus there wasn't anything spectacular to set it apart from Amazon--let alone the other competitors out there--for important criteria like price, promotions and selection.
I clicked around and wasn't too thrilled with the website. I've seen worse but it's not smooth sailing like Amazon's site. For example, clicking on "floorcare" showed me a bunch of vacuum filters before it even showed me the few vacuum cleaners they carried.
On the store level it appears that Macy's is suffering like Sears. Not as bad yet because they are toppling off a stronger foundation. They don't have the Eddie Lampert as their CEO with his newsworthy personal history. The kidnapping, the hedge fund, the FU to the press, etc.
Some of the commenters do not appreciate being compared to Sears but it sure sounds a lot like us over there.
Not all the Carsons (Bon Ton) are in dying malls. One is closing near Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg....definitely NOT a dying mall.
Bon-Ton may be filing for bankruptcy this weekend or next week
Read up on some comments for MACYS. Looks like they have same restructuring going on as sears for the store employees
But the fat cats keep getting fatter!
This is Bon-Ton, but from what I saw, many of the closing Bon-Ton stores are in dying or dead malls
