Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Laid off...

I got laid off after 22 years. Many people I work with were also laid off. Everyone was 40 plus years old and had many years of service.

The younger less seiniored people were kept. So march 30th when we are all termed the company gets all our reserve stock units back that are not vested yet.

For me this is 40 thousand dollars so if you multiply that out to 500 people and I am sure most had more then that. Walmart will have even more money from it. It's disgraceful. I'm wondering if any law firm may see there may be a class action law suit here that could be substantial.

Age discrimination for sure. Same job but the ones who were kept were either young or had the buddy system going.

If you have been there 22 years, you should be 100% vested.

It’s because younger people get f---ed over by being paid a lot less then older people. That’s why the fire the older people.

Maybe if you learned to write properly you would get paid more.....Look up the difference between then and than.

The Co manager's that were let go was because the position originally was for people who wanted to promote to store manager. Instead, people got stagnant and stayed in that pisiotn blocking everyone else. So if you were not performing or your Market didn't think you could run a store.. you got walking papers. It had nothing to do with are. It had everything to do with your ability to take a store to the next level.. companies do it all the time. Just because walmart is a large employer and made the news everyone gets up in arms.

This is a long time coming. I have worked at several Wal-Mart's! The last big store I worked at had a bunch of entitled co- mgrs and asst mgrs. I can honestly say 10 out 10 mgrs goofed off! Promoted from there own race and was usually a family member that had a different last name. For the ones I know that actually worked to get there promotions I feel for them. It is the bad mgrs who make it hard for the good ones.

I am upset with Wal-Mart what they did is a bunch of b.s.. my boyfriend worked for Wal-Mart for 19 years and he got cut. After reading other people's post I feel for them. I don't think this is right. As for the store he is at I think the decision came done to who the store manager likes. It wasn't based of who was there the longest or the newest. My boyfriend was the second oldest co and himself and the newest co managers are the ones that got there walking papers. It's sad that it came down to this because he was devoted to his job and his employee's. Wal-Mart's lost and someone else's gain.
