Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

out of the woods for now

oil prices are strengthening, business will continue to improve. Noble has laid off more than its competitors and can't afford to lose anymore worker bees. The management/director to employee ratio is even more out of whack now as the management ranks did not get hit much through the layoffs. Needless to say for all of us young workers there is not much upward movement here. But, this is a relatively safe place to be and not as bad as others seem to think So, I will continue to put my head down and work hard as I can now concentrate with most of the layoff threat behind the company

Oh please, spare us the BS. Nearly all of Noble management is inept, both young and old. A couple of the facility people are competent, but they tend to be older and learned their craft at a major. The rest of management are clowns, especially the ones who rose through the ranks inhouse. They have no clue how to do their jobs and consequently spend their time faking it. Just look to the past few years of repetitive failures for proof that this is true. So, now that oil prices have come back up things appear to be better. Don’t be fooled. Stability has always been transient in this industry and that hasn’t changed. Just wait a quarter or two, prices may not look so good then. Bottom line: this place isn’t stable and can’t afford another shock. If you’re happy here you don’t truly understand the precarious environment you are in. This place is a gilded death trap.

That sounds bad. Try having to work for a manager from the Samedan era. Vast majority of these folks do not need to be managers. Rude and inept ‘managers’.

My boss is not much older than me. Anybody's guess how he got put in that job. He is certainly not a leader nor is he forward thinking. The sad thing is that I have many ideas for improving returns that he turns down because it is "not the Noble way of doing things". He is stuck in yesterday and is inflexible. The difficult thing is that he insists that everything be funneled through him. Hence senior management has no idea the possibilities that are getting squashed at the lower levels of management. There is a price to pay for lack of experience in the management ranks
