Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

So much anger!

I just need to get his off my chest. The selling of Cabela's has cause me so much pain and financial distress. I can't even look others in the eye, who got out with fat bank rolls. I know i have to get over it but it is so unfair that so little was shared with employees below the line. And this all went down to make very rich people, disgustingly rich.

This is just MAGA at work. Remember Bass Pro just got a huge tax break to top it off.

Cabelas used to be a family grown environment. Now the morale is completely shot. They don't care about anyone because everyone is replaceable. Whatever they can do to stay on top. They will preach what they want you to hear and recycle you like cans. Bass Pro has really shown their commitment to the employees that gave their dedication to the company of Cabela's. Greed is so sour.

It's already begun in the east coast. Dropped over 8 managers at our store today. Sad to see them all walked out one by one.. be ready everyone. It was not a good day today.

So any indication on layoff if you can't see this weeks pay stub in ADP... some people can and some can't... guessing the ones that can't like me need to worry...

Sigh...

Any of you on the east coast let us know what you find out so those of us out west know what awaits us. Our GM had a look on his face like he knows what is coming and is dreading tomorrow.

Wonder why February 1st and not today? Could it be to give all those affected an extra month's health insurance if you get your health insurance through CAB?

So Feb. 1st is doomsday for Cabela's in the retail stores? Anything happening to Bass Pro people? Anyone know how the day will go down? Managers and Sales Coaches told first? HR told first? AP told first? Anyone know more details?

We are probably going to lose a few really good people. I am trying to get out of here myself. Given the strong employment market, looking back will not be a problem to me if they do let go these great co-workers. I will have no hesitation leaving.

it is unfortunate, but so many have been through this before and should see the warning signs. There is a culture in any retailer and if you enjoy what you are doing, that is one of the biggest benefits you can obtain. It is never about one person-- it is about the masses and how to make it all work out for people comforts and for profit. sometimes, it all comes together nicely

Unfortunately, this is not a simple rally the troops speech. I wish it was that easy. There will be layoff's starting at the top. It's going to be hard for many. I may be cut in the future. Time will heal. Life will go on, Good luck to everyone involved.

I don't see this as a "rah rah" speech, JM runs a lean management ship & I don't see him allowing the top heavy structure to last very long. That's costing him valuable $$ when he has a LARGE loan to pay back and every little bit helps.

Think it will be a rah, rah speech to fire up the troops and put off layoffs for another date? Or will this be the day that they clean house? Popcorn and Old Crow for all!! The sloth moves, but which way--forward, sideways or backwards? The grind continues!

Can't wait for the show. Popcorn is ready. I hope they clean house. We have 3 or 4 managers who can pack it up! It will be like a fresh start.

The plan is Feb. 1. Not able to step down. Cannot reapply.

My guess is Feb 1. We were given a mandatory meeting notice for that day. I can't imagine it will change too much, but I hope they make all salaried managers re-apply. Time to trim the fat.

The details that were posted about the retail store changes, has anything changed with that? All of this happening on Thurs if I’m understanding correctly. Will this be GMs delivering the news? Conference calls? What is BPs historical severance pkg details? Retirement pkg they alluded to in the book we received.

Yes even over on the BP layoff page, they are saying Feb 1 for retail changes. As far as the mid February Friday guess. I’m going with that since all/most conference rooms are booked solid that day. I have been through many changes at corporate. Anytime the conference rooms get booked for the day, everyone usually knows something is going to happen.

In the stores we heard Feb 1st is when the stores restructure. Someone posted the details. If someone checking this site knows that to be true it would be helpful to have a heads up for sure.

All of the days/dates that have been put out there that something is going to happen shortly haven't come to fruition as of late. They will sometime, but seriously, a sloth moves faster than Bass Pro!! And in the meantime, the grind goes on for the community and those left working at the company. The speed at which this integration is happening is very telling. A quart of Old Crow says that in two years or less, Goldman Sachs will force Bass Pro to go public so they get their money back! Who knows, that may have been the plan all along!

My guess is a Friday in mid February, corporate will know what’s going on.

i feel your pain and at the same time s--- it up and move on. A lot of people across the board and not just in Sidney are in the same position.

I relocated my family to that little hell hole of a community on the prairie. With the promise of a grand future, little did i know the grand future was for a select few. It is not just the people who work/worked at this once great company who are affected my friend, How many businesses have closed or are suffering because of this misogyny, Think on that. It is not just those who have worked here in this community and all other communities where this company is located who are affected.

I picked up the pieces and moved on. I now am paying two mortgages in hopes (albeit futile) that perhaps the housing market will turn around and I can sell the house i bought .

Yes there is much anger in that little community. They have know one to blame but themselves. Looking back at how even I scoffed at those warning at the impending destruction by placing all of the communities hopes and resources into one company, How wrong I was and ow right they were.

So s--- it up move on and rebuild what you can.

You should have seen this coming in Sept 2016 when Elliott Mgmt bought an 11% stake in the Cabelas. Another huge indicator for the last 5 years is Cabela's crappy financial performance and bloated management structure.

Unfair?! Are you serious? This is America and nothing is fair. Companies aren't out to take care of you, they are out to make money.

When you take a job in corporate america, you assume risk. Every single company is out for profits and not to take care of employees. The moment you thought Cabelas was looking out for employees, you lacked judgement.

I feel for you but a lot of employees made their own beds on this one. S--- it up and move on.
