Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

As a consumer, I can tell you why Walmart and other stores are going under

Us consumers have been tapped out. I am so sick and tired of companies trying to get me to buy the next top of the line computer when my 5 year old laptop has more speed and memory than the newer ones do. I also don't want more junk kitchen gadgets to fill my kitchen cabinets. I have a cell phone that is just fine thank you, don't need a new one every six months.

What I do buy is food, gas to get to work, insurance (car, home and health) and pay a mortgage. Those things alone take a large chunk of my income.

If the stores could figure out how to get me some more disposable money, I might actually buy something I need. Until then, they will be shutting more stores. Is the answer Amazon? Hell no. I waited almost 2 weeks for my last purchase over 2 months ago and vowed not to buy online. They did not ship the item until 8 days after I purchased it.

To #Inhishands - if Walmart is booming as you say, why are they laying off thousands of workers?

To the exceptional lady who posted below. I have never really enjoyed somebody touting how great they have done by pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. A lot of people have deservedly or undesevadly done well working for wmt. However, a lot of people have been unfairly treated and were working very hard for the company. Have a little sympathy for people that haven’t excelled as you have. You sound like a pious better-than you type. I hope your life continues to be all splendid all the time:-(

I normally don’t reply to these posts but as a current Walmart employee I Just couldn’t let this one go. Business is booming. Our stock is soaring and we are still the Fortune 500 #1 company. We are NOT going under!

To say it our responsibility to put your money in your pocket is a perfect example of what’s wrong with this world. Walmart doesn’t owe you anything. It doesn’t owe me anything. It’s a company in business to make a profit and deliver to its stockholders. However we do give millions of dollars to the community, support women owned small businesses, veterans, college scholarships, farmers etc. We work hard to keep prices low so we can help People save money so they can live better.

I know that many of you struggle. I came from poverty. I’ve been on my own since I was 15. I did attempt to go to college but was unable to finish so I do not have a degree. I was a single mom of two girls for most of my adult life. No one ever gave me anything and I didn’t expect it. I worked three jobs when I had too. I have made over six figures many years since my mid 40’s. I’m not mid 50’s. I didn’t get there because someone felt sorry for me. I got there because I worked hard, learned new skills and well quite honestly prayed a lot.

I know many of you are hurting and I hate that. I’ve been layer off. My husband lost his job once and we were both unemployed and scared. We lost everything but we built it all back with the help of God.

For anyone reading this post....you can be successful all on your own. There are opportunities everywhere. Pray, work hard and have a little faith in yourself.

We need to stop talking about how great the economy is based on Wall St. We need to discuss the economy based on Mr. and Mrs. Main St. The economy is "great" based on the first. We are still in a RECESSION based on the second.

FINALLY!! Someone who has the guts to admit the truth. OP, well done. Everyone has their denial blinders on because they cant or wont deal with reality which is because they are not emotionally mature or prepared enough to deal with this.

Hey #Eugene, original poster here. I am in CA, Silicon Valley to be exact. You must be the one living in the Deep South. Life is expensive.

So, I assume you assume your little world is as simple as it gets right? Every time I pass through little bumpkin restaurants in the South I always hear this kind of vapid comment.

"Y'all, I don't need no stinking technology in my life." "Don't need any of em city-slicken, yuppity technology companies ruining my town." "I got my pole, got my tackle box, bot my beer", "I reckon it's all anyone ever needs". "Honey, can you stop by Walmart for some new underpants?" "Yeah, extra, extra large this time."

  • Life all narrowed down to about a dozen items, a dozen routines, and a dozen of the same BBQ roasted thoughts.

Can we please talk about WMT?
