I found this in another thread, but I thought it belonged on the front page so more people could see it. I hope @RoMW3QF-cti does not mind me reposting it.
At HO, a meeting planner is sent to an impacted associate to meet in a vendor room. In my case (not this year), the meeting planner came from my VP and came at about 6pm the night before the actual meeting time. The meeting consisted of my VP and an HR representative. It is important to note that my Sr. Director (direct supervisor) was not in the loop and had nothing to to do with the decision - these becisions are made at a much higher level. Having said that, naturally, you will take it personal but try not to (easier said than done).
The meeting will feel very cold and short which is by design. It will start by telling you that the decision is final and will not change... It is very important that you remain respectfully and do not challenge the leader as they are just doing their job. I have displaced several people over the years (eventually I was displaced) and believe me, it is hard for the person on the other side of the table too.
After the meeting you will be escorted to your desk to pack your items then escorted out of the building. Again, try to stay positive and respectful as many end up landing a position within the company - do not burn a bridge. If you need to cry or release your pain another way, I suggest doing it alone and DO NOT call your former co-workers because they naturally will have survivors guilt. Reaching out to them will help nothing because at this point you have to sort things out in your own head and other people cannot relate to exactly what you are going through.
I’m my case, I chose not to tell my children as I did not want to stress them out. To this day that has not changed and I’m grateful that I made that choice. Try to keep your head up and stay positive because other door will open as long as you are knocking.
I cannot stress enough that this is not your fault so stay strong. I still believe that WM is a good company to work for. Like many large companies, WM must make business decisions that sometimes negatively impact its people.
