Is it possible as a part timer to ask to be laid off from Lowes for a period of 3 months, due to personal reasons. Who has the final say so???

Yes. They will lie to you and tell you no. Just take fmla. Call the hotline. Make a stink
It's called FMLA anyone can use it and it protects you. Just call the number and request it.

It's called a leave of absence. Talk to your HR person and/or store manager. They may say quit and reapply. That's what happened to a cashier at my store when she found out she was pregnant.
