If I'm on active service with GE for the next year, am I required to disclose my layoff date on job applications with potential employers...or can I say I'm on GE active service? This question was asked on a layoff benefits call and GE Benefits reps answered that you can state you're still on active service with GE. Just wondering if anyone has had any issues/problems with potential future employers by doing this?

Can confirm. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Most HR people, the people who first see your application, got their start in the job placement business and layoffs are just a daily business occurrence to them. Chin up and shoulders back my friend.
What will NOT go over well is misrepresenting yourself. Don't do that. Just be clear and simple. If GE said, "you can state you're still on active service with GE" then go with it.
They will look up previous employment if they hire you and it shows your "end of employment" as the last day you worked there. I saw the report GE gave.
You can definitely say you are still on active service with GE but also don’t be afraid to tell them that you were caught up in a layoff with GE. All my interviewers and the company I ultimately joined were all sympathetic. Not a negative at all.
I found that the company’s I interviewed with were more sympathetic to the situation and eager to help ya land on your feet. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Its all over the news. Be honest with them
