Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Hoffman Estates Layoffs January 31

Hoffman Estates layoffs will happen on Wednesday, January 31. Multiple conference rooms are booked all day across the campus with no meeting description provided other than "RESERVED." This has been the protocol for the layoffs over the past several years and it is very atypical for multiple conference rooms on each floor to be reserved all day.

@1hkv-- You are correct. The job fair is to replace a few of the laid off workers at a lower salary and no benefits. But time will tell who is correct.

@1hkv - You are close, but not quite correct. According to Dear Leader Eddie company layoffs are to be referred to as "Job Farewells." Also, store liquidations are to be referred to as "Grand Unopenings."

This follows on the heels of the great success that SHLD experienced in referring to customers as "Members."

Just keep believing you are not being cut or that this is fake news. IF you continue to do this it will be a true surprise when you are laid off. Just like a surprise birthday party only worse.

Confirming there are layoffs coming 1/31. I’m in the know and am aware of a few employees at corporate who are among those laid off. Can’t speak to the extent of the cuts as (not that much in the know) however can confirm there is truth to the 1/31 date.

The date on the article is 2017. It is 2018. There is nothing current in the Tribune or on the Warn notices.

Here’s the article for the non-believers:

Not a troll! Saw the article on tribune.com at 6am. It said the corporate positions were no longer needed due to stores closed or closing. It referenced syw and changes to save company.

I’m still at Sears my job is eliminated but I got offered another position but I have to apply for it.

The cuts that happen tend to happen in all the wrong places. Pricing and signing seems to have taken disproportionately severe cuts over the last year, if the quality of the pricing and signing is any indication. In all the areas local enough to Philadelphia and Boston to get Eagles and Patriots apparel, there was supposed to be a sale on the licensed apparel for eliminated teams. But oopsie doodle, someone just set the sale on ALL the NFL merchandise. So for at least a week and a half, all the teams that were still in the running (Vikings and Jaguars previously) had their stuff selling for 50% off. I believe that even as late as yesterday, stores were desperately trying to pull their Eagles and Patriots stuff off shelves before it all sold at half off, because nobody could figure out how to remove them from the event.

Agree on the Trolls.

Checked the business section of today's Tribune and no mention of 125 Corporate jobs being eliminated...

Y'all still don't realize the trolls aren't from corporate? The trolls are the people who already got laid off but still haven't moved on.

Wow, some people are just heartless. These comments are hide and hateful.

Many of us at HE work very hard every day with the best of intentions. We go in every day and ignore the lazy, ignore the noise, try to do our jobs and take care of the stores.

Not everyone at HE is in love with EL. Some of us would love to leave, and the job hunt continues daily, but the availability of open positions with other companies having positions like ours is very small at this time of year. Don’t lump everyone into the same basket and think we all make tons of money, we all have golden parachutes or that we’re all too lazy to leave. I have a family to support. Doesn’t feel good everyday going in wondering if it’s our last.

A retention bonus is the only thing that would keep me a little less stressed though.

You might actually be lucky if you are let go. Bankruptcy is inevitable this year, go now and you get severance, wait until bankruptcy and you get nothing.

@RoBJMVZ-wbs : Please tell me how you know this is fake news? Is it your suggestion the remaining SHC employees at corporate are safe, as EL moves to revitalize the company? I would love your insight Mr. Move Along!

The only employees that should remain at SHC are those with decent retention bonuses that payout when the lights go out. Otherwise you are simply a lazy fool! Face it, your customers (yes EL, I said Customers, not Members.. Dork) are leaving in droves, and the market is not interested in SYW! Shop your way is simply a drain on the organization, ask anyone in the know the amount of $'s that pour into it with NO ROI!

I will tell you, when you finally do get your resume out there, potential employers will ask, "Why did you knowingly go there when the company is obviously failing?" At this point, it will be awful hard to explain that your there for "career opportunities." I would be very careful, those who stay for the remaining few months, potential future employers will be weary!
