Hello all - Would someone be kind and summarize what's expected as it relates to Walmart layoffs this week. I know that nothing got confirmed, CNBC had coverage yesterday and it looks like several other outlets are about to start publishing as well. I am not seeking any confidential info or leaks, just a summary of (strong) rumors that you may be aware ow... Thanks!

No offense, K.S. but if you are a journalist, what's up with the poor grammar and spelling? People would risk being black-balled if they commented. WM monitors what managers post, even anonymously, through BYOD. I would suspect that you are a WM HR manager before I would believe that you are an actual journalist. Best of luck getting your "story".
Everyone is on the supposed chopping block. This is supposed to be 1000-1800 people.
But from what I can tell it’s been a continuous purge for several years now. And if you wanted to do some real reporting, check how many they’ve laid off who are older or had long tenure with the company.
The reporter that did that age investigation justice would make a name for themselves.
About 900-1000 layoffs happening on Wed and Thu of this week. Usual suspects ISD, Planning, Pricing, Real Estate, Finance and some Sam's. Also, rumor is about 100-150 VPs will be let go.
The entire town is on edge because of how they handled the Sam's Club closings. Everything was business as usual on one day then 63 clubs were closed the next. Very unusual as stores usually announce closings, stay open a few weeks to liquidate inventory and then close. The buying teams were ordering product from vendors the day before the closings and had no clue what was about to happen. Nobody in Bentonville really knows WTF is going on and who will be affected -- and everyone is nervous. Oh yeah -- and everyone sees WMT management as millionaire prima donnas sitting in their ivory tower completely apathetic to their HQ staff.
All during 2017 Walmart has been laying off people in Bentonville but they’d hit it dept by dept - we felt it was to avoid WARN. Also at the beginning of 2017 the new store structure was unveiled and it wasn’t enforced then. In 2016 all the thousands of back office people were eliminated after being told fir value and that they wouldn’t lose their positions. Walmart absolutely does not care at all about their associates.
@"K. S. Pauli" - both will be affected, stores have meet with folks on 1/12 and the HO is expecting things to happen this week.
They don’t care!
-zvp it sounds like you work at a store?
-ks pauli - are you referring to store layoffs or home office? with the reference to the cnbc coverage - i'm assuming home office? Although that was originally posted on the washington post
We had a call on Jan 12 (the shortest and coldest call ever) was informed my position was being recalibrated and that we would have 1on1 conversations with our managers by Jan 26. So 12 days later still busting my butt for the company, we will probably find out tomorrow if I’m even going to still be with the company after being at Walmart 10+ years. See my manager almost every day and these people act like nothing Is going on to us. Some of us are single income house holds and we are being kept in the dark for over 12 days. It’s so heartless of them to do this to our families. I wish I would of got my answer 12 days earlier because those days could of been crucial to finding a replacement job.....
