Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Phone notifications?

I was just wondering, after reading several posts on this board, is it true that Windstream really lays off people through a phone call? They don't really bother to even tell people in their face what's going on?

If this is true, it seems utterly heartless and cowardly to me, to be completely honest.

Yes, I as well was let go over the phone. I did get the severance and was happy with that. It should have been what they did a year or so ago, but they changed that so I only received 12 weeks. I think the company needs to take the parachutes away from the senior management. Let them go and don't give them the millions or hundreds of thousands their contracts provide. I know they signed contracts, but a good attorney could prove they are not worth the parachute benefits of their contracts.

Bring Back George Easley, he knew what he was doing. Tony Thomas is over is head. You can't bring in people from failing companies like Earthlink and PAETech. Both Companies were losing money and we bough them then brought their executives into a profitable company and see what they have done to WIN. The Ford Family is sure embarrassed by WIN now.

My boss isn't in my office, but his boss is. So his boss called me to his office and had my boss and HR on the phone to tell me I was laid off.

They would not even let me grab my own lunch out of the fridge. I had to describe the container so they could get it for me.

I was on vacation and was terminated over the phone. Got a call at 7:00 am and was told I was terminated and that I did not need to come back. My manager read directly from a script and would not answer any of my questions. In hindsight it was a good thing because I was spared the humiliation of being escorted down the hall to my office and out the door with coworkers avoiding eye contact.

Yes, exactly. Called to HR. HR present. Manager on speakerphone. whack

Escorted out the door. Had to go back days later to collect two boxes of personal belongings, with some missing.

Entire rank-and-file should strike (union or not).

Yes....Windstream actually lays off everyone with a phone call....if you are off on the day you are getting laid off you are called at home or on your cell.....if you at at work a on site manager comes gets you, takes you to a conference room ..on the call is HR and your manager (if remote) or HR is on phone and your local manager present. In one case they sent a VP...lol...they actually flew him in to lay folks off!

Yes its very inpersonal. People were all sent a meeting invite randomly out of nowhere to join a conference. About 10 or so people joined the conference where a roll call took place. Those who not had joined because they were off or on vaca were contacted and rounded up to join. Then a script was read saying our positions had been eliminated and last day was feb 1st.

Yes - people are let go over the phone. Even worse they tracked down someone on vacation with their family and let them go over the phone .

They have called and told people not to come in that they have been laid off. I know a manager, lead and a technician who were called. This round was in person.
