Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

WTF Macy's ?!!!!

Our store had numerous terminations on Monday. The difference is that today (Friday) several of the people terminated have been now told their positions have NOT been terminated after all. One associate was terminated Monday, told yesterday that she would be placed in another department, which she accepted, and then called in today to let her know the position that she had just accepted was terminated. Tennis anyone?

It’s sad that you put your heart and soul into the position only to be “let go”.

What is interesting is that no one in HR nor the manager has any direct answers. February 3rd is coming up and I haven’t received an email as to how I go about exiting properly!

That's definitely not happening in every store. I'm in the NE. We lost no one in BT sales. Matter of fact, I'm not aware of any store in our district that has yet to lose anyone in BT sales.

well now that you have qualified your answer that he was on DML, it makes more sense. Need to put that kind of info in the first post..........

Believe what you will as it was difficult for me to believe... There are a few with over 30 years under their belt, however this particular Associate is currently on DML which did have a big role in the decision. When the next quarter comes out the Associate will most likely be terminated. Would have been better off with the 30 wks severance than nothing at all. Yet, negotiations will probably be made and Macy's will make him retire.

How did your 30 year big ticket associate not be near the top on the PGA? Seniority is the big part of the total, you have big ticket associates with more seniority than 30 years? did he score a zero on his review last year? Is he on RBP? This just doesn’t add up, sorry, this is very fishy. I don’t believe you.

Big Ticket is where our 30 year dedicated Associate was let go only to hear seven days later that his position was saved. According to HR, this was across the board in every store. When told his position was saved, the Associate asked if this was a joke and looked around the office asking where the hidden camera was. He expressed that Macy's put him as well as his family in stress through all this and thought it was not very professional how it was presented. The HR Manager was heartless and cold wanting to dismiss the issue as fast as possible.

I have never experienced anything like I have seen over the last two weeks. What are we thinking?! We displace an Associate only to tell them two days later "Oh, nevermind!" Who is making these decisions? How do let someone go and then change your mind?!

What departments did these people work in that were told the conflict info? Cosmetics? Jewelry? Just selling? Sounds like this store needs to get their sh-- together...that’s awful.
