Thread regarding GE Power layoffs

Layoffs are Happening in Schenectady??

Layoffs are happening in Schenectady? Both my VP’s and all the directors on my team haven’t heard a word here in building #1 other then some rumors. I know that we did loose one team member back in June and it was awful. GE refused to extend his personal vehicle stipend for greater than six months and provided a lump sum payout equivalent to only 36 months of extension pay. Five years with the company as an exec and all they can do is give you a check for 36 months pay, provide 12 months of paid healthcare, and a rental car for six months. Absolutely disgusting. He is a great professional and deserved better.

By the way does anyone here work at that really big building near the back of the plant across from the building with the chimneys? I think that we must store stuff in there because we always see train cars with huge wooden boxes on them being moved in and out of it when we are looking out our office windows. Is that where the layoffs are supposedly happening?

To all our GE Schenectady team - I’m sure that all this layoff stuff is just nonsense and rumors. Work hard and all will be fine. Have a great 2018.

"Only" 36 months(!?) for just 5 years? Are they freaking kidding? No wonder the company has cash flow problems. The usual is 1 week pay for a year worked. And he also had a company car. Seriously. Sorry to lose such a fine employee.

Local 301, that post is clearly satire . Likely written by someone who works in the union or closely with union members.

This person must be a moron..... The really big building with giant boxes being moved out of it constantly is building 273 and those big boxes contain generators and turbines.....the sale of which pays for all your disgusting and undeserved executive perks. 273 is a massive manufacturing facility, not a warehouse you pretentious idiot.

I have belonged to the Local 301 for 13 years and this post honestly does not surprise me (well almost doesn’t) because the people outside of the factory have become disconnected morons with no idea how to build anything or what heavy industrial manufacturing is, yet they are supposed to be running GE’s center of excellence for power generation product manufacturing. The majority of my union brothers and sisters work very hard every day and really want Schenectady to succeed - there is just no one left in management that knows how to get it done. The union workers are tired of supporting executive privalige and all the massive financial perks by the sweat of their brow and the toil of their hands.

By the way if you paid T-rates an extra 2 bucks an hour you would see more get done on the floor.

Screw building one.

There is no building 1 in Schenectady. Look at a campus map! The huge one called building 2 has been fully vacant except for some police training for a few years . No building three or four. There is a building 5!

Not a joke. I worked (for six months in the summer/fall if 2017) on one of the senior teams in building 1. Director level and higher have no idea about all this Schenectady layoff stuff. We thought only in Greenville.

If the union guys would work for a full 8 hours I don’t think there would be a problem. If they had layoffs I’m sure there were only a few.

Rock on building 1 and 37!
