Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Performance means nothing

I was the guy always volunteering for off hour jobs that had no coverage and no else wanted. Always fixing people’s basic mistakes that they kept making over and over and not learning from. Available on chat and email even if I was off. Spearheading projects and trying to push my group forward. Had ~200 hours of OT last year. Not counting the times I came in FOR FREE WHILE I WAS OFF. And yup I got the boot today.

Yes literally EVERYTHING has to be quantified in metrics. Thats all they care about. Even if you did say an absolutely mission critical project that didnt show up on some metric spreadsheet somewhere it doesnt count and no one cares.

All that matters is ticket numbers and calls taken. Which is weird seeing as how a ton of people sit auxed out all day.

Performance means absolutely nothing to this company... the low level managers are safe because they don’t know anything but metrics and are making a lot less money than the people let go.

Don't feel like the lone ranger. I was the one that never told my boss no! Always took every call out. Volunteered for what ever came down the pike. Hung in on every ticket until working, never pawned off or dodged them.

Several left behind were the worse, sorry things on the clock. High maintenance techs, always calling the boss, me only time I talked to him was when he called me!

In our department, they just started at the bottom of the seniority list and worked their way up. No consideration for job performance etc.

Nothing matters to companies today other than how much you make. This company couldn't care less about anything other than senior management protecting itself at all costs.
