Is it too much to hope that technologists at GRC could be reassigned to business units? If the whole company breaks up will they just shut down GRC?
What a sad day.

@RgnN5JT-ldq That is an ignorant thing to say. Where were composites initially developed? Or all the latest GE Power and Aviation advanced 3-D aero designs for the compressor or turbine blades are done using the computer software developed from scratch guess were? The list could go on...
Aviation in New Hampshire has it's own little toxic waste land buried under an unused basketball court. Fact.
Time to die while they are still paying out to life insurance claims. Best of luck to you all.
You go down with the ship. Whether its with corporate or a stand alone GE business. Let’s face it. We’re screwed. Might as well face the music
More than likely this means measured downsizing across all business units. Cutting down on the habitually understaffed engineers and eliminate redundancies especially in non-value added positions like excess union jobs. If research cuts are to be made Bangalore would be a better target. While they may be cheaper you can’t do government work overseas (bye bye DARPA money). It’s always a knee-jerk reaction to attack research as it’s not immediate value but you can’t keep selling the same old machines forever or your competitors will kill you. If Flannery is really doing what’s best for the business I would want to see Crotonville (absolutely no value added) be shut down before or in addition to any cuts made to R&D.
GE can save a whopping half a million + in recurring cost by closing down the GRC.
VA, his crony appointees, fan club leadership and pet labs should be thrown of the "EDGE" ( no pun intended). -Savings of ~ $400MM per year.
Rest of the technologists ( NOT the MANAGERS) working on business funded, business critical ( that can make money or increase profitability and sustainability) can be absorbed into the businesses.
Get rid off all the "Inorganic Growth" business starts such as ADDITIVE- all they can do is sell some of the machines they make from the acquired plants overseas for a while only to be taken over by better and competitive ones soon.
What difference does it make .. .GRC has not contributed anything of (emphasis on this word) substantial value in years
Regarding the land issue with GRC - I'd imagine that's a problem for a lot of GE sites. I know that Aviation/Evendale is 99% safe, but I couldn't imagine trying to sell that place.
Unfortunately GRC has the reputation within GE of being it's own separate world because GRC wants it that way.
Regarding the "break up" idea, it would be almost impossible for GE to walk away from that land. No one knows what environmental surprises lurk under the top soil. The risks to a potential buyer are incalculable.
All I'm hoping for is that I can transfer back to my BU from Digital. Site pays salary and carries my headcount so I'm hopeful.
It's over. They will shut it down and fire sale what technologies they can.
