Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Explain to me again how we're not in a Recession??

Oh yeah, Amazon this, online sales that. Yeah, Amazon, which represents around 4% of total retail sales is causing this. The same Amazon that's been around for years, and has been strong for at least 3-4 years.

Not like Amazon went from zero to 4% in a year, so don't tell me Amazon did this. That's the media narrative to cover up the fact that the economy is falling apart. See all those empty retail stores? See all those layoffs in EVERY industry?

Take your head out of the sand.

By the amount of Amazon cardboard boxes I'm breaking down and putting in recycling, I have to disagree.

Change happens constantly to everything, do you think the way brick and mortar works is exempt?

If we’re going online building ecommrice why not take this associates and flip them with same pay etc...instead pay them out 60 days then they will reapply for those so called distribution centers 11 dollars a hour win win for Walmart. Associates will loose everytime sad 😞

Retail is changing.

Walmart is in defense mode.

Changes will be rapid this year.

They now have to focus online if that means cutting store level jobs.

Total retail sales are increasing, however, the sales are shifting from Brick and Mortar to Online. As such, retail store closures are not evidence of a recession. Additionally, GDP growth is still positive and there is low unemployment.

It’s a recession. Even with the announcement of wage increases, wages have not kept up with inflation.

Couple that with all the good jobs going away and we have a problem. It’s easy to find a McJob. Not so easy to find a good job.

We’re it in a recession. The world of retail has changed—eCommerce and Amazon has a jump on it sooner that brick and mortar stores. We lost a lot of stores last year and more to fail this year.

No, we're not currently in a recession.

But I agree the economy is not as secure right now as many think it is.
