Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

This is what I vision Macy's future to be.

With all the cuts at the store level. Let's have one huge center wrapstand with one associate on each floor. Empty rolling racks at each fitting from so that customers can put away their clothes. Offer 10% off, if customers put away there own go backs and pick up items off the floor on the clearance racks. Customers open their own credit accounts. Since, Visual is not important All managers will meet the 1st of the month and change mannequins and we can pay housekeeping $20 a week to change the jackets to help update the looks weekly that will help save money utilizing other resource. Hey , let's have the VPSM move around the store with a mini desk on wheels so, they can CTC , Celebrate and baby sit his/her new millennium team or, his/her team might need to baby sit them chances are that the VPSM will be a millennium. VPSM will cover all management for lunch to keep track of them. Let's maximize the staff all management and associate's will need to clock in on the dock and unpack 3 boxes of merchandise and, pack 6 boxes of fulfillment before their shift . One millennium will run the first floor since, they are the most upbeat and energetic manager on the second floor generation XYZ of course the baby boomer on the 3rd floor you need to keep out of sight since they no longer fit in. If you have your own vision let us know. It will be fun to see how long the list gets.

Our VPSM is on the floor at least half of the workday, sometimes more, always working, helping. Dressed down every day except on visit days. Helps with everything. This person is a worker.

The stuff on here is funny if I was not one of those laid off. Too bad we are not posting publicly on twitter or FB; no one but us affected care to read this.

Calling them Vice President Store Manager is the clear issue with Macy’s. Status driven dog and pony show. Your not a VP. Your a store manager inside 4 freaking walls. 1 location. Get over your stupid title and ego.

Keep the top 10 stores in key markets with one mgr and 10 part time leads and 10 part-time associates. Only open Fri, Sat and Sunday only open 11-8 with / one floor with one check out and 5 return areas. Cosmetics is purchased out of a vending machine everything e lese is on H racks.

Then open small strip mall locations next to UPS stores to return all the crap they order online. The can also use a kiosk to order more crap they really don't want.

Not all VPSMs sit in their offices all day. I “jokingly” call our VPSM the highest paid sales associate on the floor. Staff is so lean, our VPSM is always on the floor, behind a register.

This is somewhat already happening. Since hours are given solely based on sales and not common sense square feet and architecture barriers. For example, due to the size of my store we sometimes have one associate for an entire floor, or a wall is between an area requiring customer assistance like handbags and where the associate also must cover. As we continue to decrease selling zones centralized checkout and fitting rooms will be a must. Stores doing under $30 mil will need to become more like a Notdstrom Rack to survive. It is better to put a few associates together to ensure efficient checkout than have one here and there with a painfully slow moving line at each checkout. We also cannot have multiple fitting rooms because it becomes impossible to keep up with them.

I work in the southwest and have lots of friend in other stores. VPSM are seen in the morning with the MTM, walking out of the building to get lunch, walking with visual ,occasionally on the floor and when they walk out of the building to go home. 80% in the office were they receive pictures and text on the progress.

In all fairness some VPSMs don’t do that at all. If the company truly cared about being more profitable they would re-evaluate their $125,000+ salaries. Maybe they will at their trip to Vegas in March.

In fairness, there are a lot of VPSMs who actually work on the floor daily or are very seldom found in their offices. Most Southwest VPSMs are helping on the floor or supervising, even selling. Any changes that will required them to work on the floor will not be new for most.

BTW, I found your envisioned floor assignments hilarious, specially for the baby boomer. LOL.

The way you envision the Macy's future is what the closed Mervyn's department stores did. They didn't have overactive online sites like Macy's in the past years. Your idea about associates helping at the dock and fulfillment is okay, but you must mean already clocked-in and before their "shift" on the sales floor. There are higher up executives reading this thread, so all ideas can be looked into by them.
