Is anyone else worried about the EA office going down this route in the next 2-3 years too?

I've heard from the folks down there that maybe 1/3rd of the folks in NYC at most were offered relocation to ES, but no one was offered EA (or MEGA for that matter)

Good luck everyone.

My condolences to all the designers, engineers, planners and product managers who have lost their jobs! I worked on Barbie from 2007-2012 and those were some of the happiest years of my career.

I can tell you from prior experience after quitting Hasbro, Rhode Island that you might want to relocate to the West Coast as soon as possible! I was back home in NY looking for steady toy industry work while freelancing with no luck, but I got hired at Spin Master only a few months after moving back to LA last summer!

Good luck!

Hopefully Marketing and sales are let go and creative is given a fair option. Marketing/Sales have finally driven what was once a great office into the ground. Engineers can get jobs anywhere and content, well, they made they toys worse so they should go as well.

There are a dozen people there that need to go from almost every department. Marketing, design, VP's, packaging, content, engineering. Hope they off some pregnant women. They cry the most!

Thomas was a massive failure this holiday season. What parent in their right mind would have bought that enormous piece of plastic garbage of a TV driver? Only to have to re-assemble it every time their little turd took it apart? NO THANK YOU! No toybox for Thomas its time to put that old brit train in a coffin. That's the only box it deserves.

I don’t know if it is true, but the offer to relocate some people does sound reasonable in light of Thomas becoming a Toy Box brand today; they may simply be scaling back for now. Despite the terrible financial state, they’ve been trying to move people around to new roles vs just firing dozens/hundreds of people; in my opinion, a very considerate move. That’s not to say there aren’t loads of other problems.

@Mvcp: Truer words were never spoken. Mattel has fatally cost reduced itself out of profitability. Kind of ironic, huh?

MGO doesn't understand that COST CUTTING is one of the biggest drivers for getting us into the state we are in. We cost reduced our best and brightest designers out of the company and replaced them with less expensive millennials with no expertise. We cost reduced the products in order to pay for the enormous overhead our bloated, inverted triangle requires. We cost reduced the engineering by relocating it to China, where the most expedient solution is always the answer, instead of doing things correctly.

The costs that need to be controlled are the golden parachutes and the salary/perks for those at the top of the ivory tower. Pay for performance, not for just showing up.

Considering todays stock article saying that were close to being downgraded to junk bond status and that M-Go wants to focus on innovation and technology through cost cutting measures god only knows whats in store for anyone in this company.

@RaH3NIe-Kmos you were told to start looking because you s--- and they don't want you. A number of NYC folks have recently taken transfers to ES.

I am a NYC employee who was asked to transfer to El Segundo in July of this year. I declined and was basically told to start looking... I was power stunned in the meeting and of course, I was asked to keep this confidential. I find it absurd the way Upper Management works. its sickening.

Honest question, are you guys doing anything other than working on the Thomas line? HIT hasn't put out a new property since we acquired them, I thought they were supposed to be a content pipeline feeding the toy dev teams.

well the stock is on the rise again so let’s see where this takes us. maybe our heads will be spared the chopping block? or is it just the “wait till after toy fair for the re-org and layoffs?”

Seriously. The mood here is so damned morose in NYC. Toy Fair is like preparing for a funeral this year. No enthusiasm whatsoever. The drivers already look like another year of flops.

Math is hard.

The millennials won't get the reference, but people who were with the company when it was growing massively will.

Who's the troll talking about "love the direction MGO is taking the company"? IS there a direction? All I've seen is ineptness and incompetency. Certainly, there's been no "direction" - how could there be coming from someone who simply doesn't know what to do and is out of her league?

Go to EA, not only is it culturally and geographicly, but you fat Manhattan sized paychecks will make you the envy of all your peers and will really go far in WNY.

why would anyone out their co-workers, especially the ones that are liked to make you feel like this is validated? 6 designers were sent out west prior to the holidays to see if they had an interest or fit the ES mold. Its cherry picking' time fool. Either you're not ripe or you've soured on the branch. get over yourself.

Too many trolls on this site for me to believe this. Love my job, love the direction MGo is taking the company, hope this isn’t true, and won’t believe it until there is something concrete here. (Hey previous poster, got some initials for those three who are heading west?) There are some good folks in the NYC office who are looking to turn this company around.
