I am sure most folks saw UAMS announcement that 600+ positions will be eliminated - I think over 200 folks that are full timers here at UAMS will be cut. Also, there are more news today it seems that about 50 more will be cut. I think we would be better off is some high paying positions were cut and if we were to cut executive compensation so we can save these jobs.
I am just sad to see all of this happening.
The environment at UAMS is so toxic right now that others are packing their bags and moving to other institutions. So the idea these layoffs are not affecting the clinical/research/education mission is laughable.
How I assume this went down:

"You know, we really need all 50 vice chancellors and all 200 associate/assistant deans. And we definitely can't sell the private jet.... alright, we'll just fire a bunch of the nurses and office staff, the others can pick up their slack."
