Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Now this gal gets it......

.....for all you gloom & doomers out there.

Still, not everyone is pessimistic about Mattel. Morningstar Inc.'s Jaime Katz wrote in a note last week that Mattel is well on its way to cost reduction, as it's cleaned up inventory and initiated small-scale content production efforts.

"We believe Mattel's story is moving in the right direction, although multiple years of mismanagement and operational dysfunction takes time to unwind and reposition," she said. "We expect to see increased momentum in the second half of 2018, as indicated by progress in the capture of cost-saving initiatives and stabilizing the top line."

Dear OP:

The writer you mentioned is in her 20's and doesn't even understand how a business runs. Let me explain:

1) Mattel cleaned up inventory - they spent over 75% of their marketing dollars (stolen from the other brands that aren't Hot Wheels and Barbie) to clearance non-performing product in those same brands - and yet, those brands STILL declined in shipments (a sign of disaster - not hope).

2) Cost Reduction are underway - Yup, and the result is NO NEW product worth anything. Even worse, I hear the Thomas team has a whole new line of products for their "new content" yet don't seem to know that LP of the newly formed NAD has already cut all their media and advertising dollars this year in order to again artificially prop up Barbie (who will decline AGAIN).

When Mattel can own up to the fact that Barbie is declining to unprecedented lows, and Hot Wheels continues to only make .03 cents a car, then, finally, the Emperor will understand that they have no clothes on and they need to start focusing on other brands (like FP which now is TWICE THE SIZE OF BARBIE).

Current Mattel leadership ,RD ran his previous company into the ground and M-GO lasted only months at previous employer. Sticking to the facts!! Shareholders , stakeholders and and anyone who cares should have a cautious view of the situation! Smart charismatic people ( and outright pretenders)do not always make good leaders. Clearly the case at Mattel.

She is spot on with our mismanagement at the top. MGO and RD are living up to that unfortunate tradition. And the board of directors are the other train wreck. The have no clue what is happening. They are just interested in their check, stock and tickets to the Staple Center.

Spare me. There is no evidence that we've recovered or even bottomed out: Jamie is on the take. Mattel still has plenty of cash to pay off stock advisors, toy reviewers and TOTY judges. A Hot Wheels garage is the Toy of the Year. Do the math and name your price if you have any influence in any related field.

Hopefully Jamie will invest her entire life savings into Mattel, and ride that stock to the bitter end...

Well I’ll agree with her on the “multiple years of mismanagement and operational dysfunction.” Not so sure about the rest of what she has to say here.

This gal is drinking the delusional upper management cool-aid. There more analyst reports stating that there is no evidence any presented plan is working . Things have gotten worse , not better. Upper management has been given too much slack and too much money to lose 1 billion dollars. There are better senior execs out there somewhere,we need to fire current group and pray!
