a) Why did you decide to join State Farm...No place to go like home. Had to click my heels 3 times and it is where I landed. Or the house would have landed on me.

b) What makes you stay at State Farm. All the cute guys there.

1) Pretty much the job of my dreams, a no brainer when it dropped in my lap.

2) I still love the job-I really do! I have a great TM, great co-workers, the pay & benefits are as good or better than I would get anywhere else. The only sour point (and it's really sour) is that the powers that be appear to have decided I'm not worth having around anymore. There's no sense leaving until they drag me out the door, kicking & screaming, because where I live there isn't anything that's more promising.

Good pay (higher real pay than Chicago), good bennies, work life balance, nice community in BN.

29 years ago:

1) first real job after college...lots of young/attractive recent college grad coeds in my training class..I knew I made the right choice (target rich environment when you're single)

Current situation:

2) golden handcuffs (maxed out RA) plus I really enjoyed my job up until 2015...now trying to hang on until retirement/layoff/death....whichever comes first. My managers have been super cool and now I worry for them too.

I joined 3 months ago and I have no illusions about how corporations treat people - I am here for a paycheck, anything more than this I treat as an extra perk that I'd appreciate. I totally get how people who spent many decades here feel, but for me, honestly it's just money right now (I am a single mother and I live in an area where limited employment opportunities exist)

HR must be getting desperate...conducting an employee opinion survey on a Layoff page!!! Guess they want answers to these questions, so they know which new candidates NOT to hire.

To earn a living.

Taking the severance after 32 years.

Timing worked out well for me. Best of luck to those with the challenges this presents to their unique timelines and circumstances.

My experience is similar to @egg below - I am retired now and I was lucky to spend 33 years here.

I am sorry you have to deal with all of this now, it seems that there is a lot of unhappiness round nowadays. My experience was different (retired in 2014).

God bless....

Worked as an external for MANY years, then hired in as internal for job security when this new round of issues was gathering steam. I've worked as external or internal for many large companies in central Illinois and SF had the best atmosphere. All companies have changed lately, including SF, but relatively speaking, SF is still good. Hopefully it stays that way.

I was looking for a job! They were the big employer in the community with great benefits. I started at the lowest level and worked hard to climb the ladder. Took advantage of the generous tuition assistance programs, earning both my Bachelors and Masters on SF’s dime. I alsways thought I was treated fairly and rewarded well. Retired recently after 40 years. Went through 5 restructures and 2 relocations. They were hard but necessary.

Ditto, 28 years ago it was a no brainer...now I sometimes wonder if I still have a brain.
