I worked at SF for 20 years and only had one manager that dug in and actually understood my job and could verbalize what I did, as for the rest (most managers lasted 2-3 years in an area), another one was out to have my position eliminated until I sat with her and showed her step-by-step what a work day entailed, then she moved on to other employees and within 6 months she'd either fired or moved 4 team members out of our unit; I'm sure she got a 5 star rating for her efforts. I always felt the less management knew about how you got the work done the better off you were. I found out the hard way that you need to have a document prepared for every one on one meeting so when they were looking at performance they had something to refer to because if you didn't your performance pay would be the lowest in the unit.

i am not a manager. I have to disagree. Ive had good mgrs who solved problems and gave teams the support to solve problems. A good mgr makes a huge difference. So many were squelched by leadership if they wanted to accomplish more than SF nice...and i dont mean these were unreasonable and mean mgrs. i mean they wanted to enable employees to do good for customers and cut red tape. Many of those are leaving march 31.
