Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Current Enrollment

It would be nice to know the current matriculated enrollment. It was once close to 500,000, but has been declining for years.

From all reliable sources (can't share them because I am still employed and will remain so due to my very large salary that will be hard to replicate elsewhere - plus I want to be laid off and receive a good severance and unemployment comp.) current enrollment is between 62-65K depending on the day of the week. I reviewed an AZ Republic article from 2015 that reported UOP's peak enrollment atb 477,000 at the end of 2010. The article also forecasted that UOP would decline by about 70% over the next five years, which then was 2015-2020. Competition, pricing, retention, and fractured brand reputation were cited as major factors in this plummet. Clearly the article was optimistic. If the 65K number is close to accurate, then the decline is far worse, at about 85%, rather than 70%. This forecast was made before privatization and the sale, HLC probation, temporary military sanctions, campus closures, and program elimination. None of the factors identified in the article have been assuaged. And new issues have emerged such as much larger class sizes, workforce reductions that have significantly impacted operations and service, and others.

If there was a possibility that the impact of these factors could be successfully mitigated by innovation, renovation, change, etc, what initiatives would you recommend to make this transformation possible?

And faculty are wondering why class solicitations are down! That's down 80 - 90% from the high of almost 500,000 not that long ago.

Folks, enrollment was 142,500 FY2016Q4. My guess is the 63,000 number falling to 50,000 is probably in the ball park. I would expect 35,000 in 18 months. I finished my income taxes and have a nice write-off for the Apollo Group Stock losses sold during the buy-out.

Ask the CFO. One of the last CFOs at Apollo predicted 150,000 as the bottom on an earnings call way back when. Oops. "Fore"casting stands for when is the next tee time.

RK puts out the reports every so often. I think it’s listed on that. The number is low and with ER’s spending more time qualifying leads and wasting time on that, they won’t be able to generate as much. Doors closed by December.

Reliable source says 63-65K sounds about right. It is now below 70K. More layoffs coming............of course. Estimates are that enrollment declines will plateau at 50K. If true, many more layoffs will happen. I think the bottom is lower.
