Qualcomm may be able to get a higher price from another suitor. Apple has plenty of money. Qualcomm would provide Apple some diversification in products and services as well become an in-house provider of high-quality chips.

Not a bad idea in principle; but not Apple. Why ? They are on the winning side of the licensing legal fight; why would then want to shut it down now ? Better for them to prevail; see AVGO fail and then a weakened Q with loss of licensing gravy will be a cheaper and weaker target.
But then APPL doesnt need 'snapdragon'. Just the modem and connectivity bits. Maybe a bit of the car stuff; but that doesnt really amount to more than a few $. No IP or leadership position in cars to speak of.
Intel could do it
Buying Q does not make sense for a lot of companies since it is too big. It is not like Q has the some of the hottest technology either. AVAGO is the only hope.
