Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Do the executives see themselves as visionaries?

I'm just wondering what goes through the mind of someone like Tipsord or Fawad each time a new consulting firm comes up with a grand plan for organizing Systems or other areas of the business.

I picture them sitting at a big table in a grand room, looking Mr. Lead Consultant in the eye and saying things like, "Don't you worry, Mr. Consultant. We're looking to go big. We need your most drastic, visionary ideas. No simple measures here. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead."

Mr. consultant then drafts some half-c---ed plan sure to doom the company by removing its best employees and replacing them with a culture primed to stab everyone in the back (including them), and they say, "This is great, see. This is what we need, see."

For some reason I always imagine Tipsy speaking with a 1940's movie gangster voice.

But what happens when employee morale hits the basement and they can't retain anyone? What happens when they trade their captive audience in Bloomington for a job market that has no allegiance to them?

What then?

I mean Hell, I just found out State Farm has been underpaying me by about 30,000 dollars per year. That crap ain't going to fly in Dallas, Phoenix, or Atlanta the way it did in Bloomington.

After the company hits rock bottom, does Tipsy say, "It's time to go, see. I got my Golden Parachute, see. Me and Fawad are hittin' the bricks, see."

And at what point does the board wake up?

“And..why would the executives that had the idea of building the Integrated Solutions Dept just a few years ago be the ones that are leading it's dismantling?”

Anything can happen after a few too many at Schooners for happy hour.

And..why would the executives that had the idea of building the Integrated Solutions Dept just a few years ago be the ones that are leading it's dismantling?

Because Tipsy met a new consultant with amazing new ideas and couldn't resist. He said, "This sh-- is great, see! We're gonna knock 'em dead, see! I got these numbers on a balance sheet that say we've got problems, see! And my savant-like obsession with numbers at the expense of everything else takes precedence now, see!"

How can they under pay you when you've agreed to work for that amount?

The going rate for a job skill is not determined by a single agreement between one employee and his employer. It is determined by the agreements made in aggregate for said job skill in a given region, per the laws of supply and demand.

In short, what the last guy said.

People agree to be under paid (or overpaid) all the time. Those agreements become part of the aggregate.
