Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Looking forward to this being over

Anybody else checking this site and stressing over what's to come instead of relaxing during the weekend?

Being in my early fifties, I know my odds will not be good when layoffs hit. And I also know that job market for somebody my age is far from ideal.

Having said that, I am looking forward to this being over, whichever way it turns out for me. This anxiety is not good for my blood pressure.

I'm 55 and started looking for a job outside of State Farm in August when the "Transformation" was first announced. I saw the writing on the wall then. In October another company, a leader in their respective industry, contacted me and brought me through the interview process and offered me a job in December! I start with them next week and can't tell you how excited I am. I'm excited to start a new adventure far from Bloomington, IL and excited to leave SF behind. I know State Farm will survive, but the next 3-5 years in this company are going to be miserable. I can't wait for Michael Tipsord to look over at Duane Farrington in October and say "Duane, why aren't we delivering anything?" My only regret is that I couldn't time my new offer with a severance. But, I have a paycheck and with a great company and not looking back! Good luck to all my friends that "made the cut" and to those who'll move on. I have all in the confidence in their abilities and know they'll succeed.

To the OP I am so sorry. That is a bad position to be in. I would get ahead of it so you are thinking of your future rather than worrying about it.

Thoughts and prayers to all of us who are impacted. I hope that God has a better plan.

Just try to relax and know that it's going to be over. Stay if you can and make as much as you can while you can with the farm. Pay off as much as you can and try to position yourself in a good place. Just tell yourself that and that is what you are really doing and that it will end. I'm trying to get all my debts gone that u can so when it happens to me I won't be in terrible shape. I know it's temporary but I can make more and pay of more by staying as long as possible. If your health can't take it then try to find something else. ANY other insurance company will treat you better. No job is worth your health. I'm OK by telling myself that I'm going to stay and make as much as possible tI'll it's over. Good luck. God bless.

Seriously, nobody should be waiting and applying out ASAP.

I remember a friend of mine telling me how State Farm has its own way of doing things since they are so big. And that might have been ok for a while as people stuck around and they cared about their employees.

But what’s happening today.... it will never be the same State Farm. Cut your losses and run!

Absolutely agree with you! But I also think, why wait? Take action for yourself now to reduce that stress. If you are at risk of owing your job, start looking now. Other insurance companies are picking up our people left and right.
