They closed Moncton, NB today with no notice. It was open less than 3 years, but too close to a BP location. It is starting.

Just a matter of time until all of the Cabelas stores are closed in favor of the Bass Pro Shop stores. They've already fired 9/10s of Cabelas store managers and replaced them with $12/hour "sales leads" who know nothing and have no authority....not to mention how Sydney, Nebraska is rapidly becoming a ghost town where the Cabelas headquarters once was. Once they end their gun sales, which is clearly coming up, it's the end of the road for Cabelas.
Maybe both would stay open with the difficulty of selling guns across state lines, however gun sales have been declining.
Additionally, there is a lease length issue.
“Steve Johnson, the developer of the Pinnacle, told me Bass Pro Shops at Bristol, Tenn. will not be affected. He says there is a 25-year continuous operating clause in the lease. Bristol, Va. leaders say the city has a 3-year-lease with Cabela's”
This points towards Cabela’s being shuttered if one of them goes.
Objectively, I would think Cabelas in Bristol, VA would stay open vs Bass Pro in Bristol, TN. Sales tax in VA is almost 4% lower than TN, making it that much more attractive to shoppers. Especially those purchasing big ticket items (Tracker Boats).
Thornton is next
Of course, it makes no sense otherwise.
Look at this map, it shows the location of Cabela’s and Bass Pro shops across North America

There is going to be more.
Check out this other article, at the end it has a list of the closest stores, or most likely, the order of the Cabela’s that will close first. I’d wager Cabela’s Bristol store closes in October 2018, between now and then, there are quite a few that could be in play. This article absolutely called it.
