Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Laid off part timers?

Was anyone else working part time and laid off? I wasn't costing the company anything in insurance, and I was barely above normal pay. Management had talked about the lead position going away and I wish I requested to be bumped down at the time, because I'd still have a job.

Yes - part-time head cashiers got laid off too -2 at our store - they just wanted to get rid of head cashiers period. I'm afraid they will eventually get rid of the children's lead and cafe lead too. I wouldn't be surprised if the ASMs are next or at least one of them. Maybe if the corporate execs didn't take their bonuses this year this wouldn't had to happen to such nice and hard-working people.

I'm not aware of any part-time layoffs, only full-time leads with 20+ years of experience. Now, those that remain are newer part-timers who don't know anything about books, and who will probably end up frustrating customers even more than they were before. So, great decision BN! Hurt business where it matters most: decent customer service.

I believe that it was a job description massacre, more than actually looking at facts of how you help the store. If you had any kind of "lead" title (beyond kid's or cafe, right now), you are gone regardless of pay, hours etc. I I was an RM, who worked in every area of the store and I was "let go". I'm very sorry that you (as with anyone) was "let go", I just hope we can all rebound from this betrayal.
