Severance

So can you collect unemployment after severance or is it instead of severance? Is medical included in the severance package?

Medical and dental start 2/18/18 if you choose COBRA. The company will subsidize the premiums throughout the severance period. After that your rates will increase to the full COBRA amount. If you choose this option, you will not be eligible for marketplace insurance until 2019. Be very careful! Not being able to make the increased payment will not make you eligible to sign up in the marketplace plans.

They are providing your current health premiums just until your severance period is over. You pay into that as usual. Then you have to find your own coverage or join cobra which is way too expensive

They are providing subsidized medical through the year of 2018 which is way cheaper than the COBRA coverage, but I think it's also contingent on accepting the severance agreement.

You can collect unemployment if you're part of this unconscionable layoff. Check your state's division of Labor and Employment. You'll have medical through your last month, so I understand, and you can use COBRA afterward, but that's astronomically expensive! Best to check out the ACA instead.
