Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Still hiring?

Why are we still hiring while laying off thousands of people at the same time? PepsiCo posted new job openings literally during the two days during which it laid off a whole bunch of people.

Why is this okay? Can't they wait at least a few days, to make it a bit less obvious their goal is to get rid of experienced workers who earn more than new hires?

This makes me really mad.

Hey, has anyone read up on the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)?

I read this example of one form of harassment...

"For example, an employer may not relegate all older workers to a particular level of employment within a company and then decline to promote them."

Has anyone ever been told "you can go no higher in the employment chain because well you just can't". Or "you do not have the right credentials to be given anymore promotions"??? I have again and again.

yes, wish someone would look into the age thing. i was harassed weekly/daily by my new manager for 2 years. couldn't take it anymore. got out and thank goodness i did. i took a look at the older workers act and its government at its finest, ie useless. How's this for an example... I had to write a final report and asked a coworker if I could use her report as a template because the results were exactly the same. My boss loved this coworker. When I finished my report and sent it to boss for final approval my boss ripped it apart saying how awful and short sighted it was. I mentioned it was the same report as so-and-so's whom boss had praised this same report about. Boss turned red and said had another meeting to go to :) Crap like that happened all the time. Other times boss called my reports too detailed and also told me to wait two weeks to issue reports because we don't want clients thinking we can turnaround a report in a couple of days... utterly ridiculous!

By firing and hiring at the same time, allows them to pull the illusion that their still hiring and creating jobs.

Yes it is sad how they lay people off while there were open positions and didn't offer those getting laid off if they wanted to apply to another position. The new postings are just open positions that they could've filled easily with those being laid off. They told me I can apply as a rehire externally which is confusing. Why would I want to go back now anyways. They're definitely not finished.

I think there was definitely age discrimination and how they tried to mask it. They say you are under a program defined by the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act. Really??? That sounds like CYA... I will be looking into this more.

70 rule should be challenged as age discrimination in court. How can they treat loyal employees this way and sleep at night. HR within PepsiCo is worthless and lack people skills. More concerned about their career than the frontline. Glad I got out on my own terms and the stress this yearly layoff or reorg has on the employee and family is undue.

I survived at least 7 re-orgs in my 30 years with FL before retiring. It always amazed and frustrated me to no end that the company was laying people off while all the while hiring new folks. I once counted over 300 jobs on the internal web page that were being offered the same day we laid people off. I know a person the got re-orged and debanded from a B1 to an L11 and within a couple weeks found a a B1 job back in a different department - what a terrible picture it paints. Also, never understood why they didn't offer some type of voluntary "out" to people first - maybe different severance packages for those that volunteer?

A class act, PepsiCo. Are any of us really surprised? To anyone out there applying for an open position at Pepsi, DON'T DO IT!

My peers and I are planning our way overdue exit strategy.
