Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Play by Play of how Pepsi handled me and my layoff

Im no whiner , but my Pep story is so ridiculous Im curious what others think..

Came in off a strong referral from the outside, was hired by and reported to a respected B2 to develop and build a team within a trans function.Being an external hire into a leadership role required a lot of adapting to existing culture and certain processes that my lateral peers in TX had already established since my team was to be an extension of theirs..naturally I had questions around what some of the norms were. Everyone was helpful initially especially one of them. Im going to call this person "the snake".The snake called me , sent me suggestions, looped me in on emails, and gained my trust. After the initial few months i saw fewer and fewer messages, calls, IM's from everyone but the snake kept reaching out checking in, asking how my business was and giving me insight to things that I otherwise would not know. The snake ended up being my "go to" and the rest of the group was there if the snake wasn't. The snake was a level above me but reported to a lower banded manager than I did. My boss was the snakes boss's boss. I knew the snake had a strong relationship with my boss though. The snake knew my schedule down to when i had 1-1's with my leader. He would call me sometimes beforehand to give me "advice" on a few things he thought my leader would like to hear. I heeded the advice since everyone knew they were close and my leader was somewhat socially awkward especially during short calls a few times a month. Through Q3 that year I noticed some people on the snakes team getting pushy in cross managing my team. At one point it was blatant disrespect ignoring my role as a leader and I brought it up..The snake played it as his lead was "coaching" and "making our teams better" and we all need to do that. Regardless of who reports to who. I blew it off but kept noticing more and more people on his team poking around my business. I began finding things out second hand from my leader which was odd but Fast fwd to the end of the year...I ended up with a handpicked team that i hired, trained, and that delivered every AOP goal I had. At the very end of the year I traveled to my boss and the snakes office for a key meeting. My boss pulled me aside and told me that he needed me to take another role within his BU, he was promoting the snake, and that I would no longer report directly to him...I would report to the snake as the snake was going to take over the team that I was brought on to develop and lead. From there my leader said he would support me if I decided to look for other roles within Pep and even mentioned a role that he knew of , but I wasn't interested in....SO..I find out that the snake was systematically painting the picture of me to my boss that he needed to in order to leapfrog me. All the help was actually sabotage and manipulating conversations. The snake is my old leaders golden boy and i realized that very quickly from this point out. I was effectively cut out of any and everything important to ones career and it ended in getting let go yesterday. To this minute neither my original boss nor the snake has given me the courtesy of saying "hey , you ok" thats the kind of people you have to deal with at pepsi.

I joined PEP sometime ago from another food company. I was glad to move to PEP since my boss before was the biggest snake in the world. He was greedy, and always MIA. Then he was laid off and joined FL later as B1. Now I have to deal with him again. I can't name him, but be careful with any new B1 kids on the block at FL. I heard he has not changed his ways. He is still always MIA.

The snakes won't be able to get a job anywhere else for a long time. Believe me. Hope the back biting was worth it.

Frito is full of snakes. Especially specific levels (L9, L10, L11) that report directly into a department's B3. These people are like little s----up spies.

There was a particular female snake in my department that always she thought she was right, and played the game very well. She always battled me when we were 1:1, but was sweet as can be when she wanted something or needed advice....i always knew she talked crap behind my back + she always ran with my ideas and acted like they were her own to leadership.

She ended up marrying somone in the my department and within a year he reported into the same B3 position. Good job HR for allowing that!!...because they were like a doubleheaded snake. The he-snake rode in on the she-snake's coattail; else he would have surely been hit in the layoff.

I was laid off on Tuesday....and the doubleheaded snake couple is still there. Terrible environment that with a lot of caddy L10-L11s. HR needs to do of better job of uncovering clear issues....but they only show up when it is time to layoff people.

100% believable. It's like when you get to a certain level they give you a manual that describes how to secretly sabotage and f over your colleagues and direct reports.

How's the PR for you this week Pepsi? This board is going viral and getting tons of traffic. Started going downhill a long time ago and will continue the downward trend.

the sad part is, it is believable, i totally believe everything here - that's how bad it is.

karma is a b--ch. as you can see, 2000 people read your story in less than 8 hours - spin that pepsi...

Story time, in 2011 I was laid off from a large company. Me and my wife were newly married and had a daughter on the way when this happened, so it was the worst timing in the world. I came home that day just in total shock, my face was white and I just sat on the couch speechless with my pregnant wife asking me what happened. I didn't want to face her. Over the next few weeks I started feeling a bit better, but still couldn't put together why they had chosen me, a top performer to be let go. This was a medium size layoff and it seemed that a lot of the people were low performers or obviously not good fits for their roles.

Well little by little the calls from coworkers came in asking what happened and I started talking to them. I was good friends with my bosses admin and she mentioned she had a little souvenir for me. Happens my boss rushed out the door late one evening and left his computer unlocked and she decided to start snooping his outlook (she thought he had it out for her) and boom what did she find? A bunch of emails between him and another colleague in our group who were having an affair. In between the s-xual messages there were emails where they would stupidly gossip and talk sh-- about people in our group and of course yours truly (called me a plantation grunt who would only be mediocre) and the admin (said she reminded them of a southern cheerleader who got fat later in life). Well what wonderful humans these people were! But to my face my boss was promising me a promotion and telling me I was rising talent blah blah lol.

Now our admin was pretty tech savvy and forwarded some of the evidence to a yahoo account she had and deleted the sent messages in outlook before the next day when our boss came in. She printed them out when she was home and held them as evidence in case anything happened. Once I got laid off she told me she really hated my former boss but she didn't have the 'heart' to let his wife know.

So I said well f--- it I do. 3 months later I took those printouts and mailed them straight to his house in a large envelope addressed to right to his wife and boy oh boy did that start a sh--storm and boom a divorce and more boom his wife calling the authorities non stop and taking most of his money.

Do I regret it? Hell no bastard deserved it for being a lying prick. This guy continually lied to me for over a year while he was sending his little girlfriend insulting messages about me.

Now my daughter is 7 and I always tell her to stand up for herself and to never get mad but get even. I tell adults that as well.

So yeah jvm revenge is sweet and I HIGHLY vouch for the satisfaction of getting back at the people you are calling snakes.

Whoever made the decisions on the new division of labor is totally out of touch or on drugs, I’m just not sure which yet.

Tried posting this a bunch of times and kept getting errors.

I was recently laid off at a company and saw that there was mucho activity on this page. I have been reading posts about snakes, it was the same where I was.

I always hear people say to let it go and that people will magically get what is coming to them.

No.

Crush them. It's no doubt that there were people who orchestrated the downfall of many of you. Your human resource rep was just the messenger, if you go back you can see who did it.

You should absolutely give it back to the person who did it to you. Only you know what you are capable of. Don't let them get away with it and completely psychologically destroy that person.

Your story sounds totally believable. Something similar happened to me and I, too, was laid off. And, yes, I'm a woman.

A totally believable story. I bet youre a woman too. Most of the old timers there are worthless slimy crap in one way or another. I was just laid off after almost 10 yrs of total mind games. Im relieved and its a blessing in disguise. Karma is a b--ch, PepsiCo!

This would be a new low for most companies but for PEP it's par for the course. Sorry you had to be exposed to such scum.
