Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Layoff Criteria

It's all based on store volume.

Stores above 8 million keep receiving managers. most stores are not above that cut off and make significantly less, so more positions are cut. it all depends on your store.

I've heard that bargain, newsstand, head cashiers and receivers have all been fired depending on store volume. kids and cafe leads seem to be safe for now and part timers who aren't in receiving are safe. but who knows when the next round of firings begins. this is obviously the end of the company.

our store made 8.3 million last year, on par to do it this year as well, and we still lost our RM. we had been told that stores above a certain threshold would have RMs stay, but not be replaced if they were to leave, but today we were told he had to be let go too.

as far as i know, shelvers are fine. part timers are fine but i've heard of a store that fired multiple receivers because their positions are no longer required for that store based on its volume. but mostly this seems to be about culling full time positions.

you mention part timers in receiving. does that mean the shelfer is gone too?
