You have a legal and 'at will' contract with the company...
Knowing this going in means you should expect to be terminated, plan accordingly, and don't blame the company, its just business, there is nothing personal, we are in this game to make money and each of us is an expense.
This is how capitalism works, one thing gets destroyed to free up resources to go do something better and more productive.
Everyone realizes they should have taken more responsibility for their own career development after the shock of a layoff. But when you may have been with the same company since graduation and spent your entire career there, it is easy to get comfortable and reluctant to explore career opportunities elsewhere. People can be paralyzed with fear and end up staying in a job because it feels safer until something like this happens. Now the original poster may have good intentions for a tough love post, but it sure sounds like kicking someone when they’re already down. Hindsight is 20/20, and those who lost their jobs today don’t need some insensitive clod yelling “I told you so!”

You know what....you are a moron. How is it fair when someone who has worked 10, 12, 15 years at a job gets let go without notice YET the fat cats on the board who are driving the ship don't TAKE A DIME LESS?

Much as it s---s, you are exactly right. I never assume my job is "safe". It's business, not personal. I've been thru more than a few of these. Was let go in one. Brought back a few years later. S---s, but that's business. It's a numbers game.
