If I didn't like it I would leave that is why I'm pissed that people that has well over the years to retire and won't. Leaving 42 younger people out on the street just because these people are greedy .
Wrong! I have twenty plus years left to work. Just tired of all the b--ching. It's simple really ...... You don't like it Leave. Good riddance don't let let the door hit you in the ass
You must be one of the ones that can retire and won't seems like I hit a nerve on that one. Didn't come from ITT so don't blame it on that.
Tier1 Tier1 Tier1 go the hell back to ITT oh wait..... Yeah nevermind y'all killed that too
We can go by and shake the hands of the tier one people that can retire and refuse to retire because they are afraid they are going to die if they do. Hate to tell them we all are going to die sometime or another. But just think this is the first round of layoffs will be more to get at least the other 42 people that didn't get it this time.
Here we go again, another tier 1 drinking the kool aid from management. The wind lines were set up temporarily to work the problems out, are you really that niave to believe this work wasn't set up to go overseas? Why would GE pay a tier 1 person when they can hire 4 overseas workers? Of course management is gonna blame the worker for their inadequacies to be able to produce so that they can clear their conscious.
Everybody knows the Tier 2 people not working on the wind lines got them farmed out. Management has said as much. When we had work the tier 2 people wouldn’t do it and refused overtime as well. Couldn’t meet deadlines so they farmed it out. Some tier 2 are good workers and I feel for them. If you don’t like it be sure not to come back when they call you if we survive.
I encourage all 42 people effected by this layoff to please walk through the plant and shake the hands of all the tier 1 people who sold their soul and are still protected and don't have to be held accountable for any production while supervisors walk by them and tell a tier 2 to get to work. A day of reckoning is coming and i hope im here to see it. Even the tier 1's that have retired on the job cant argue with how fundamentally the pay scale is broken, when you have a tier 1 wireman making almost $32.00 hr while tier 2 makes $19.99, cmon people wake up.
My heart goes out to all that are being laid off. What I think everyone is forgetting is that ALL employees depend on their wages to provide for their families. It angers me to see finger pointing...especially 2nd tier folks (who by the way still have a job) but say they hate GE and are constantly complaining, not working and doing everything to be an A-hole! The way I look at it is if you hate your job...quit! That way one of the 42 can stay. Too bad we will be losing good workers while ungrateful people get to stay.
@RI78wnE-1kjr, you are correct. Unions are for pathetic lazy brats that can’t stand on their own feet.
If being part of a union means I start to think someone else is supposed to take care of me and I start b--ching like a two year old then no thanks. I'd rather be a man.
One major reason GE moved the gas turbine manufacturing from Schenectady to Greenville was to escape the Union. Many other companies are doing the same. Detroit is a good example.
There are pro’s and con’s to a Union. The con is the union protects older senior people that do not do a days work. I have witnessed in the days of building 66, final assembly weekend call in’s for overtime for them to walk up the assembly platform look at the turbine and then sit at the picnic table read newspaper and wait to be told what to do. Those folks should have been let go. As for the pro’s union negotiate benefits that non union shops cannot achieve. Those benefits if given to union members at that job site will be offered to white collar employees. Healthcare was a good example. I used to think unions were bad for companies but for GE every position should be unionized including engineering. The company leaders are crooks and need to stop taking advantade of individual contributors. So, to conclude I entourage all of you to form a union and screw GE.
You're lucky you have a union in Salem they would have gotten rid of some of you a long time ago for sitting around doing nothing but complaining. If you was so talented you would have left and found you another job (non-union). That way you could work 10-12 hours a day with mandatory OT, very few holidays, week-ends and no voice in the workplace. Then you would finally have something to B--ch about. Wake up people it's not your union's fault you have no work! GE as the right to run their business even if they run it in the ground. Too bad you won't spend as much time trying to build up your union as you do tearing it down. People like you are what's wrong with the Union. Ask yourself a question what have you done for your union lately, by the looks of this page I would say NOTHING!
Sorry to burst your bubble. I’ve worked in Schenectady and Greenville. Greenville is not favorited by any means. Greenville has a huge miss management environment as well as unskilled labor force. Schenectady has a lot more to offer.
Unions are a major problem. Parasitic organizations that only survive as long as the host survives. They used to help protect people. Now they only want you to send them money. Companies like GE move to anti union regions. That’s why GE Greenville is safer than Schenectady. Greenville is non Union and therefore favored my GE leadership.
The layoff should have been in Schnectady, they need to flush that toilet and get rid of all the turds.
The Union doesn’t create orders? The hell you say.
Not sure what the Union could possibly do. The Union doesn’t create orders. Under the circumstances I think you are lucky it’s not worse.
Be careful what you ask for! You may get it!
Yes, unions are useless, and you get to pay them too!
People getting layed off, other people complaining about not getting asked for overtime. Smh. They really should shut this toxic place down.
Salem, VA
where was the layoff Schenectady ?
What good is union, when there is no business and the company is sinking?
